A 16-year-old Dalit girl, who was allegedly brutally gang-raped in UP’s Firozabad on November 1, succumbed to her critical injuries on Friday after battling for life at an Agra hospital for nearly a week. Sita never asked for the deer’s skin to be used as a “furniture cover.” The Valmiki Ramayana is very clear:

“If this deer is killed, I wish to sit upon its golden skin, overlaying it on a seat of tender darbha grass”
It was customary to sit on a deer skin asana, with Darbha grass, during religious observances and Vratas.
That is precisely what Sita is referring to. If the deer could not be captured alive, she wished to use its golden skin as a seat.
Amazing that such people are considered as scholars.
