Indiana just buried the Nets 136-109, dropping Brooklyn to 0-3. What started as a competitive first half turned into a defensive disaster. Indiana shot 57.6% from the field, drilled 21-of-43 from deep and finished with 56 points in the paint.
A lot of work left on that end of the floor.

Fernández: “The performance we put up after the first quarter was just unacceptable.
“We did not look like a winning team out there.”
The Nets found their freedom in a 41-point fourth quarter in Cleveland. Jordi Fernández wants that confidence from the opening tip.

Starters tonight vs Indiana:
Egor Dëmin
Keon Ellis
Michael Porter Jr.
Julius Randle
Day'Ron Sharpe
Jordi Fernández had already said Mikel Brown Jr. wouldn’t play tonight against Indiana, but the designation is notable: The Nets have listed the rookie guard as out due to “back injury management.”
"But if I’m just thinking about playing them together, I may not do what’s best for the group at the moment.”
Mikel Brown Jr. and Egor Dëmin shared just three minutes, 36 seconds in Saturday's loss to Cleveland.
Brooklyn outscored the Cavaliers 11-6 in that stretch before Brown returned to the bench with 4:42 remaining.
The larger rally required contributions from several lineups, and most of the final charge came with Brown sitting.

Chaney Johnson gave Jordi Fernández another frontcourt option in Cleveland.
“He played with so much force and energy and got 50-50 balls and rebounds.”
Fernández singled out the hustle plays that ended in dunks: “Those are winning plays.”
Egor Dëmin on Mikel Brown Jr. after their first regular-season minutes together:
“And he's fully embracing the name, not just on his back, but on the front of his jersey.”
“I can't wait to spend more time with him on the court.”
Jordi Fernández said pairing Egor Dëmin and Mikel Brown Jr. wasn’t planned. Brown’s shotmaking and energy prompted it.
“Did I plan it? No.”
“But if I'm just thinking about playing them together, I may not do what's best for the group at the moment.”
It took the Nets nearly 40 minutes to play Egor Dëmin and Mikel Brown Jr. together.
It took considerably less time to see why they should do it again.

“It’s not all on Day’Ron.”
Michael Porter Jr. and Julius Randle can make the Nets’ offense more dangerous without taking a shot.
Why Brooklyn’s plans to run start with finishing the job on the defensive glass.

“Obviously nobody has guaranteed minutes.”
How Jordi Fernández is balancing competition and patience in the Nets’ crowded rotation.

Don't expect Mikel Brown Jr.'s minutes restriction to disappear anytime soon. It'll be a gradual process for Brooklyn's rookie guard.
Fernández: "At some point he'll be able to play more minutes, he'll be able to play back-to-backs, but it's not right now."
Jordi Fernández isn't ready to overhaul Brooklyn's rotation after one loss.
“Obviously nobody has guaranteed minutes.”
But he also made his position clear: “If I would be changing things right now, it would be a sign of you're freaking out and I think that we're not there.”
Michael Porter Jr. offered some serious praise for Mikel Brown Jr. today.
“There's been practices where he's completely dominated”
Porter believes Brown has the tools to become elite on both ends of the floor, adding:
“So, there's not a lot of weakness in his game.”
Quite an endorsement.
“Mine? Not very good.”
Egor Dëmin wanted more energy. Mikel Brown Jr. needed more patience.
With Julius Randle and Michael Porter Jr. supplying 59 points, the Nets’ young guards are learning how to help when their shots don’t fall.

RT @petersblendorio: Back in New York, Julius Randle totaled 33 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in his #Nets debut.
Still, Randle…
