If you index sports viewership to 2014, the NBA is up 30.4% in regular season viewership, according to new Arctos study. That's far more than the NFL, NHL & MLB. NFL is up by 3.5%, while MLB is down 2.6% and NHL down 11.4%. Its full media rights analysis: kkr.com/insights/arctos-spor…

I actually agree after running all the numbers.
The only benefit of a shorter season is there are fewer games to get injured in. But the data doesn’t support the schedule, back to backs, etc as a factor in increased injuries.
There also isn’t any support for the idea that load management and more rest days have done anything to reduce injuries.
The injury problem is primarily lower body muscle strains happening early in the season. And that’s something that is most affected by off season and preseason prep and conditioning - not the schedule or style of play.
I’m beginning to think the “injury problem” is really a modern athlete problem with a lack of proper out of season and preseason ramp up/conditioning.
Iman Shumpert goes off on anyone calling for the NBA to shorten its 82 game season, arguing that players should focus on conditioning and changing how they play instead of reducing the number of games.
Shumpert points to legends like Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, John Stockton and Gary Payton, who played 82 game seasons, questioning why today’s players need fewer games. He believes the league should bring back more physical basketball, with players attacking the post, taking midrange shots, playing through contact and cutting down on flopping and exaggerated moves.
He also questions how much extra time players would actually gain from shortening the season, arguing that changing the way the game is played may be a better solution to the injury problem.

Kevin Garnett says he used to run three miles a day so he wouldn’t ever get tired during games, and says he would lean into opposing players during the 4th quarter just to hear how hard they’re breathing and make sure they knew he wasn’t tired at all
“Stretching is another thing. I don’t think our kids are in the best shape either, bro. I’m watching the league, a lot of dudes out of shape in the league, bro. I ain’t going to lie. I don’t see nobody running, racing.”
“The secret weapon of being in shape... I was literally just hell on the whole team. It’s different when you’ve got your hands on your knees in the fourth quarter and you see a dude in your face ready to go. Like, ‘I’m not even tired.’ That’s just a mental advantage.”
“They don’t run the miles. That used to be one of my main workouts, two or three miles a day. I never got tired on the court, ever. That was part of my play. I wanted to outwork you so much that I could hear you breathing. I’d say something: ‘Boy, you breathing. I can hear you. You sound like Biggie out here.’”
“I’m dead ass, boy. You can’t play me. You out here huffing and puffing, boy. What? It’s definitely an advantage to that.”
Cooper Flagg says he wants to spend his whole career in Dallas and be loved like Dirk, but staying isn’t entirely up to him
Q: "Would you like to be on one team? Forever?"
Cooper Flagg: "100%. I think I would like nothing more than that to be able to... you look at someone like Dirk, obviously, his legacy, there’s nothing that touches that, to be that loved by a city, to have that much love and support from one place. I don’t think you could dream for anything else but that."
"That’s the ultimate goal, but like we were just talking about, it’s a business at the end of the day and a lot of it’s not going to be my decision."
