Dimitri Tsykalov is a Russian artist living and working in Paris. He creates art from a range of unusual materials, but these Cronenbergian meat guns are extraordinary. According to Tyskalov, they represent "the brutality, and the simplicity, of the gun". #horror

Skinwalkers (2006). Directed by James Isaac. A 12-year-old boy and his mother become the targets of two warring werewolf packs, each with different intentions and motives. [IMDB] The Stan Winston Studio devised a hybrid digital/practical makeup technique to achieve the animalistic look of the werewolves while maintaining the actors' facial characteristics. Having to anticipate and accommodate eventual digital manipulation made the makeup sculpting much more challenging. "That was one of the toughest sculptures I've ever done," Joey Orosco commented, "because that sculpture wasn't going to be the final look. The final look wouldn't be achieved until the tweaking had been done on the computer. My sculpture was only fifty percent of the final look. As a result, when it was still in maquette form, or when you saw a test makeup in photos, it looked strange. I was sculpting somewhat blind, creating these weird shapes and forms that were going to be moved around in the computer." [IMDB]

I'm about 70% of the way through Heartfelt Horrors, by Michael Sellars (@HorrorPaperback), and it's a fantastic collection. If you're looking for a great Halloween read, this is perfect. I love contemporary suburban-esque horror. This fits right into the horror I look for.

Delighted to share for the first time, the cover to my forthcoming horror novel, CHOKING HAZARDS🚬, courtesy of Luke Bird, the 2026 British Book Awards winner for Designer of the Year. Here's the blurb from publishers Dead Ink (and the pre-order link is in the comments below): Someone's trying to hide a crime... and they're using Madeline's body to do it. As if living with the consequences of her vindictive ex-husband's manipulation wasn't enough to have her questioning reality, strange objects have begun to manifest on the back of her tongue. A cigarette butt. Someone else's tooth. A set of severed fingers... CHOKING HAZARDS 🚬 is a grisly, stomach-turning blitz of a horror-thriller from author Michael Sellars. Perfect for readers who love Grady Hendrix and Paul Tremblay and available to pre-order now! Link below! Support your indie creators!

One of the few I met only in passing. He was part of the “Hair Metal” school of FX Rockers and I came up just right after via Dick Smith. But his stuff was always out of left field smart.
It was reported by his family that Screaming Mad George had passed away in February at the age of 69. He had a hand in so many of our favorites including Spaceballs, Big Trouble in Little China, A Nightmare on Elm Street parts 3 and 4, Freaked, and he brought Guyver to life!

I love this artwork by Richard Clifton-Dey! First used as interior illustration in 'Tour of the Universe' by Malcolm Edwards and Robert Holdstock, but more well known for a few album covers.

REGGIE BANNISTER (1945-2026) I lost my hero yesterday. I am very sorry to report that my dear friend and collaborator, Reggie Bannister, died yesterday at age 80. I first met Reggie when I was 18 years old. I was deep into production on my first feature film Jim The World's Greatest. He had invited producer Paul Pepperman and I down to the Wooden Keg, a dive bar in Long Beach, CA to meet about it. Reg was performing a spirited set that night on guitar and vocals and the audience loved his songs and infectious personality. After his set, we introduced ourselves, intent on convincing him to co-star in the project. "A feature film, huh?" he asked. "Far out, man." Reggie then ordered us all a round of beers. It was the first alcoholic drink I'd ever been served (illegally) at a bar. With four words, Reg toasted with a clink of his glass, "Count me in, boys!" Little did I know that night would lead to literally a lifetime of working together with him on many films. In the Phantasm series, only Reggie could turn a simple role as an ice cream vendor sidekick into an unlikely action hero for the ages. He channeled himself into that role. All the fans who met him at the horror conventions could attest that in-person, Reg was cool, funny, loyal, and steadfast. Reggie the character was Reggie the friend. In real life, he embodied all the qualities of his character in Phantasm and no one questioned that Reg was that guy, the one willing to lay his body down on the fires of hell for his friends. Reggie was born in Long Beach and was naturally attracted to the arts from an early age. He was a founding member of The Greenwood County singers with music legend Van Dyke Parks. Still in his teens, his popular folk band toured the country until Reg received his draft notice and was called to serve a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. He came back from the war determined to pursue a life of peace and creativity. He threw himself into musical projects and then acting. In addition to co-starring in my first three films, Reg starred in all the Phantasm sequels, and made significant appearances in both Survival Quest and Bubba Ho-tep. His improvised scene with Bruce Campbell in Bubba in which the two men argue about a scarab beetle infestation in Elvis's rest home is a classic. He went on to star in dozens of independent films, always enthusiastic about supporting first-time directors. Along the way, Reggie kept up his music, releasing many well-received albums. He also partnered with his wife Gigi Bannister in a successful entertainment production company, Production Magic Inc., producing live event, musical and film projects. Reggie is predeceased by his father Horace, his mother Evelyn and brother Ronald. He is survived by his lovely daughter, Ellen and his devoted wife, Gigi. Reggie Bannister was a gifted creative collaborator, a dear friend and he will be sincerely missed. Yes, Reg, to me and your legion of fans, you'll always be "Hot as Love."

TREMORS (1990) is basically a masterclass disguised as a creature feature. The pacing is immaculate, the rules of the Graboid world are established early & the practical effects still hold up beautifully. Just an absurdly well-made monster movie.
Name a movie that completely exceeded your expectations. 🎬

TEN GREAT HORROR NOVEL OPENING LINES 1 It by Stephen King The terror, which would not end for another twenty-eight years—if it ever did end—began, so far as I know or can tell, with a boat made from a sheet of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain. 2 The Damnation Game by Clive Barker The air was electric the day the thief crossed the city, certain that tonight, after so many weeks of frustration, he would finally locate the card-player. 3 The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. 4 The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty Like the brief doomed flare of exploding suns that register dimly on the farthest edge of the galaxy, the beginning of the horror passed almost unnoticed. 5 I Am Legend by Richard Matheson On those cloudy days, Robert Neville was never sure when sunset came, and sometimes they were in the streets before he could get back. 6 The Ritual by Adam Nevill And on the second day things did not get better. 7 Sour Candy by Kealan Patrick Burke Four months to the day he first encountered the boy at Walmart, the last of Phil Pendleton’s teeth fell out. 8 Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury The seller of lightning rods arrived just ahead of the storm. 9 Ancient Images by Ramsey Campbell At last the pain became unbearable, but not for long. 10 Ghost Story by Peter Straub "What was the worst thing you've ever done?" "I won't tell you that, but I'll tell you the worst thing that ever happened to me... the most dreadful thing..." Okay that last one’s two lines but, come one. It’s Peter freakin’ Straub. I’m sure there’s a ton of great opening lines I’ve overlooked. Share in the comments. Start a beef.😄 #horrorfiction #horrorcommunity
