This is the full video of Guardian journalist Chris McGreal speaking about Elon Musk and what he called the PayPal mafia, and how they are linked to today’s South Africa and its relationship with the Trump administration. Chris McGreal was the Guardian’s foreign correspondent in Johannesburg during the last days of apartheid and throughout Mandela’s presidency and part of Mbeki’s presidency, and now writes from America. He also wrote this piece titled “How the roots of the ‘PayPal mafia’ extend to apartheid South Africa.” theguardian.com/technology/2… and another one titled; What does Elon Musk believe? theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i…

"To go in the dark with a light is to know the light. To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight, and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings, and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings." - Wendell Berry

I watch watch PTA a few times a year. Always hits harder at Thanksgiving. I miss everything about John Candy.

I remember waking up in Tokyo in the Fall and a guy was sweeping leaves from the street with a huge straw broom. I asked him why he wasn't using a leaf blower and he said the noise is disrespectful to residents.

No one on the planet could top this. I’ve watched this about a million times over the past several years and it will never be enough.
Aretha Franklin’s performance at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors is widely regarded as one of the best moments in the history of the event. The occasion was to honor Carole King, the legendary songwriter and one of the co-writers of Aretha’s iconic hit “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” Draped in a floor-length fur coat, Aretha took the stage and began with a subtle piano introduction, which immediately drew the audience into her world. Her powerful voice and commanding presence filled the room, visibly moving everyone in attendance. Carole King, seated in the audience, was overwhelmed with emotion, cheering and holding her hands to her face in disbelief. This unforgettable performance not only celebrated Carole King's compositions, but also reaffirmed Aretha Franklin's unparalleled ability to continue performing at 100% at age 73. Aretha Franklin is one of the greatest female musicians of all time.

Saw Nick Cave in Paris recently at the Accor Arena and I was really struck by that song Joy where he sings “We’ve all had too much sorrow, now it the time for joy.” I was thinking to myself, yeah that’s about right.
