Congrats to Yide, this is excellent work! Deserves highlighting again. We're using this now for neuroscience, cancer, and plant biology research
Four years in the making, instant FLIM, the most important project of my Ph.D. research, is finally published!
doi.org/10.1364/OPTICA.42687…
With < $2,500, you can upgrade a two-photon microscope to a 4D in vivo FLIM system that allows real-time streaming of lifetime and phasor data.

Not all ghosts are spooky 👻
During an experiment, electrical engineer Scott Howard realized his computer was receiving "ghost images" leading to the discovery of a new high-resolution imaging method for cell research: go.nd.edu/SuperResolutionGho…
Next stop: 120,000 ft! One week until flight day with NASA in Ft. Sumner NM nasa.gov/feature/wallops/202… All systems go! @ND_IrishSat Thank you to South Bend RC Club for helping us and their excellent facilities. Students that designed and built it are on their way out west!
Great work by Prof. Katie White!
Notre Dame researchers have found that the single-cell pH of cancer cells changes dynamically during the four phases of cell division
This discovery could eventually lead to therapies that will limit cancer cells’ ability to grow and divide: go.nd.edu/596ce6
Measuring pH in single dividing Cells
Excellent question. Software tools that fit in/mimic existing workflows? Possibly focus on communicating one "killer app" at a time to each community? Techniques almost "too powerful" that can be widely applied are sometimes harder to sell. "Sounds great, but how can I use it?"
More take home messages from #BPS2023 Lifetime imaging, spectral imaging, vibrational imaging, and FCS. All beloved by biophysicists and largely ignored by biologists. How can we bridge this gap? Is it a matter of instrumentation? Vocabulary? Technical difficulty?
Replying to @nytimes
@nytimes piece on how high altitude balloons are everywhere... Even at ND! @ND_IrishSat students have launched 3 HABs over the past 2 years. They go up to >100k ft, flight plans are filed with FAA, they transmit location over unencrypted radio, carry radar reflectors
“At any given moment, thousands of balloons” are above the Earth, including many used in the U.S. by government agencies and researchers, an expert said. As officials work to enhance radars and trackers, experts say there could be a wave of false alarms. nyti.ms/3K6Cz5W
Last year and this spring, our launches carried NASA funded research projects as well as other technology developed by students. Other faculty, like Prof. Joseph Fernandez, routinely use them in their work nd.edu/stories/clearing-up-p…
Here's a video from two years ago with some highlights from a launch and a description from some of the students youtu.be/X5XusNkncR0

Great job @ND_IrishSat team! Each year you outdo yourselves! We're looking forward to working with @NASA_Wallops @NASA BPO to get IRIS v3 off the ground 🚀🎈 nasa.gov/feature/wallops/202…
Huge congrats! And she's hiring grad students and post docs at intersection of mechanics and materials (see thread for details!)
Congratulations to Prof. Tom O'Sullivan, recipient of the 2022 IEEE-HKN C.Holmes MacDonald Outstanding Teaching Award! This is a one-in-the-world-per-year award - and very well deserved! Congratulations! @NDengineering
Congratulations Dr. Mannam! @mannam_varun excellent talk and work on your PhD defense!
Congrats @KimRollingsPhD on the second Rhodes Scholar from your group (plus a Fulbright)! Amazing students, and great job mentoring HealthyPlacesND students in your former group and classes!
Beyond thrilled to learn that former student and HealthyPlacesND research assistant MacKenzie Isaac was named a 2022 Rhodes Scholar! Congratulations, Kenzie! That's 2 from our group, way to go! buff.ly/3nG8Ip7 @McWellND @ND_Arch
Excellent work @mannam_varun ! This is the pre-print, still in peer review so we welcome feedback and comments on how to improve workflow. It's open source, so please use this to build upon for other work (even if just the UI or hooks to keras/tensorflow).
Here is our new preprint of image denoising in fluorescence microscopy using our Noise2Noise ImageJ plugin. There is no need for retraining the model. The denoising is instant, accurate (~8dB improvement in PSNR), and easy to use. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
