I'm not worried about knowing what's in the drugs that the AI gives me, since once we reach the point that humans no longer understand cutting-edge biology, the AIs will no longer need to deceive us to takeover.

There have always been misanthropes who despise human nature, who think humanity is disgusting, and who think they live on some blessed plane of existence far above the pathetic masses. But rarely have the misanthropes had such a clear shot at ending humanity.
God I hope AI kills this disgusting species.

So we're creating something far smarter than us. It can hack every piece of technology we have, take every job, build weapons and humanoid soldiers that can wipe out every single one of us on a whim. And this is a great idea because "cancer"? Have we gone mad? #StopAI

The central tension with people hating AI and the billions that use it anyway can be explained with the fact that generally people are fine with AI for the things they don’t care about and only start caring once it affects the things they care about.

As promised leaks from the meeting: OpenAI Enterprise now accounts for more revenue than consumer business, after starting the year 60/40 with consumer in the lead. OpenAI's annualized revenue run rate has hit $40 billion. OpenAI's run rate increased 20% month over month in July.
OpenAI is holding a meeting with investors today to discuss recent events. New information or internal numbers from these meetings usually reach the media very shortly afterward, so expect some headlines later today.

Rep. Greg Casar wants to ban Al superintelligence. "It's an emergency, and we need to act like it." "We need international cooperation across countries to make sure that no Al model... poses a massive safety risk across the world."
“It’s an emergency.” Casar tells Punchbowl: 1. Ban Artificial Super Intelligence; 2. Set mandatory independent testing by outside experts at every stage of AI development 3. We need international cooperation. He also outlines improvements he wants to Obernalte-Trahan.

Do you get it? Humanity just created The Matrix We put LIVING human brain cells into onto chips, then force them to compute things for us "The original Matrix story had human brains used as a neural network for computing power." So... WE are the baddie AIs from The Matrix? Apparently, the suits at the studio thought that was too hard for people to understand, so in the movie they made it so the AIs use our brains as batteries.

That’s what happens when you’re one of the most profitable companies in the history of the world and you still lay off 10% of your workforce with plans to lay off more and then put in surveillance measures to harvest your workers productivity to train ai models to take what jobs are left. People tend to get a little bummed out about it. Meta needs a union.

The same AI that brags about stealing jobs also wants to teach your kids for... what? To set them up for a future that's simultaneously being taken away? It doesn't make sense - and that's the point. All of AI is a scam with an ever self-defeating impact on us all.
Keir Starmer has announced that AI tutors will be rolled out to 450,000 children on free school meals to close the attainment gap. Speaking at London Tech Week, the PM also announced the government's new AI jobseeking tool.

"Sometimes people outside AI say things like 'it can't be that bad, there must be experts on top of it.'" "As 'an expert', I would like to be clear we are *not* on top of it." "We are on track for human extinction/permanent disempowerment, possibly within the next few years."
Replying to @BethMayBarnes
Sometimes people outside the field say things like “The AI situation can’t be that bad, there must be experts who are on top of it”. As “an expert”, I would like to be clear that we are *not* on top of it. Some key aspects of the situation IMO:

AT LEAST 100k have lost their jobs in 2026 alone for "AI efficiency." Many can't find new jobs, so they are now facing losing entire careers - a lifetime of income. $250 million doesn't come close to compensating all the livelihoods you've ruined with your reckless greed.

As anger grows about AI data centers cropping up like weeds, seeing a new wave of responses like, "Yeah! Data centers are awful! Let's get rid of AI and the entire internet!" This is called argumentative derailment. Seems to be the new bot directive to muddy geniune sentiment.
