The local anger over DoorDash backing the Republican bill in the House that restricts D.C.’s ability to increase taxes or fees seems to be growing. The bill cleared a key House committee today: notus.org/metro/house-bill-d…
This morning, I attended a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee meeting, where members advanced a deeply anti-DC bill that could devastate our economy and undermine our ability to govern our own city.
I was stunned to learn that DoorDash, a company that employs tens of thousands of Dashers in DC and partners with thousands of DC merchants, sent a letter supporting one of the biggest assaults on DC in decades.
It is absolutely outrageous that a company profiting from our city would support legislation that could do such serious harm to it.
I have contacted DoorDash and demanded an explanation. Washingtonians deserve answers, and I will report back when I receive them.
Alright, I’ll go.

It’s official: A campaign to ban the sale of foie gras in D.C. has submitted some 45,000 signatures to the elections board to get the initiative on the November ballot. The signatures will now be reviewed; some 28,000 are needed for ballot access.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is currently at Meridian Hill Park in DC hosting a DC Safe & Beautiful Task Force Ceremony with ~200 National Guardsmen. It's unclear what the ceremony is for.
Per pooler @Liz_Friden there are roughly 3 dozen protestors across the street chanting things like "Guard go home!" and "hey hey ho ho the task force has got to go." One person is holding a sign that reads "arrest Hegseth."

#DCPrimary - Janeese Lewis George for mayor in initial count wins seven of the city's eight wards, trailing Kenyan McDuffie narrowly in Ward 3 (46-43%). More mail ballots to be counted, but likely a decisive JLG win w/over 52% of vote. If 52% holds, ranked choice tabulations won't count.
