OK, I'll bite. If John Cassavetes is so insanely influential and brilliant, why have I not heard about him until recently? I've been on a side-quest with classic and esoteric movies, mostly through the Criterion collection. I've watched dozens of Criterion closet picks from filmmakers and actors I admire. They pick Cassavetes films ALL THE TIME. Probably more than any other director except Scorsese. I haven't seen a single Cassavetes film. I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about a Cassavetes film outside of those videos. I'm not a slouch on film, I've got a pretty wide spread on what I've seen & what I appreciate. How has Cassavetes slipped through that net so completely for so long?

Today, I filled out my absentee ballot for the 2026 midterms. We never should have been in this situation in the first place and it will never cease to shock me how people voted for him again. After January 6th, after mocking a person with a disability, after the Hollywood Access tape, after he told us to drink bleach, and I could write for 200 paragraphs…but that’s what happens when religion gets mixed with a lust for power. Christian Nationalism is ridiculously harmful, I’ve been vocal on this since my deconstruction from it and reconstruction, and I will continue to be vocal about it. And I will never stop advocating for those who do not have a voice. People, go vote. Engage in politics. Our future depends on it. Have you voted yet? ⤵️
