The idea that Pinochet, Mussolini, and Franco, who killed under 1% of their countrymen after they took power, were worse than Pol Pot, who murdered about 25% of his, is beyond absurd.
And Pinochet probably did more good than harm overall. Pol Pot, on the other hand, destroyed almost everything he touched. His per capita domestic civilian death toll was higher than everyone on this list.

We know how much it matters to live in a country where our rights are protected, where the law applies equally to everyone, and where the majority can’t just decide that some people don’t deserve the same freedoms. The safety and freedom we’ve found in America didn’t happen by accident. They exist because of democracy. And protecting democracy means protecting Jewish safety, too.
We know what happens when those protections start to break down. When courts are weakened, elections are undermined, and people lose equal protection under the law, minorities are often the first to pay the price. Jews have seen this throughout our history. It’s one of the reasons so many of our families sought refuge in democratic countries.
That’s why I find it so alarming to see what’s happening right now. When masked government agents are taking people off the streets and citizens are being shot in public, we should all be worried about where things are headed. As Jews, we know that when a government starts targeting certain groups of people, no one should assume they’re safe from what comes next.
Mike Rogers has chosen to align himself with a movement that is willing to attack our democracy. He stood with Trump and refused to accept the results of the 2020 election. And now we’re seeing what happens when a political movement treats the rights and dignity of certain people as disposable. For Jews, these things should set off alarm bells.
Jewish safety is tied to the health of our democracy. We can’t protect one without protecting the other. And in this Senate race, Abdul is the candidate who understands that and is willing to fight for it.

1990s Glenn Beck (pictured) may have been an alcoholic stoner, but his aesthetics back then gave promise that you were looking at the next Rush Limbaugh. That promise never came to fruition, despite his unequivocal success, and I think his styling choices after his conversion to Mormonism are mostly to blame. It’s just impossible to take a man seriously who presents himself this way.
I love the Mormons, but there is something about LDS that makes men weirdly vain and closeted-presenting, even after one’s Boy Scout years.

I'm not sure we've ever seen a political candidate this thirsty for a tough guy image.

People are growing really tired of Abdul's smug, whiny, fake tough guy schtick. Angry snark works great for a couple of weeks, early in the cycle, but then you need to attenuate it and dial up the optimism and hope as you close. Now, every single clip of Abdul in memory is him with a furrowed brow looking smug and offended and angry, so it's painting one consistent picture...Abdul's a little bitch.

Patently absurd.
A criminal inquiry is underway after a 19-year-old Louisiana State University student posted on social media last month claiming she was raped by an LSU football player. Earlier this year, a Title IX investigation found the football player responsible for forcible rape, but he remains on campus playing for the LSU football team.
In an exclusive interview, CBS News’ @Jerickaduncan spoke to the woman who's questioning the university's handling of the case.

We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit.
It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion.
In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding.
In the post below, we share more details about our new fund.

When I say that women lack the concept of an honorable enemy, this is what I’m talking about.
Obviously a lot of the Democrats’ new vindictiveness is Trump derangement, but the Great Feminization is part of the story, too.
Men understand that the other guy is a professional just like me, and we should have an open fight by fair rules and both go home at the end of the day.
For women, conflict isn’t over until the other side is gone and they never have to talk to them again.
Men believe in hierarchy, so a fight is about establishing dominance within the hierarchy and making the other guy subordinate.
Women don’t, everything is egalitarian and consensus-driven, so if you do get conflict, the only possible outcome is total exclusion from the group.
It makes sense that the Democratic Party is abandoning old-fashioned ideas about honorable conflict as it becomes more dominated by women.
ON UCHICAGO CAMPUS: U.S. Senator from Michigan Elissa Slotkin hopes planned political prosecutions of republican leaders will scare young conservatives from getting involved in politics.
@ElissaSlotkin
Three types of people are invincible in the face of conflict:
A) Natural alpha males. Think Jamie Dimon or Scott Bessent. (These types are rare.)
B) Sound thinkers who live by their principles and have a measure of inner calm by virtue of their steadfastness and rigorous approach. Think @VDHanson or @ThomasSowell (@yhazony also fits this description).
C) People often consumed by inner turmoil who have long lost any sense of shame, understanding that shame stands as the barrier between them being relevant and being utterly irrelevant (typically owing to i) lack of personality, charisma, or self-confidence, always felt from an early age; but sometimes owing also to ii) a perceptible lack of brainpower or to iii) a life of debauchery that they would like to excuse).
(A) never has any doubt that they will win the argument. They will never stoop to your level. (B) has the confidence of one’s own measure and intellect. They will engage with you evenly and win. (C) simply plays by a different rubric than everyone else keeping score. They cannot lose because they have already accepted that they are losers intrinsically. Their aim is only to bring you down to their level, to make you fight in the mud with them.
(A) will make you feel small. (B) will make you feel stupid. (C) will simply frustrate you.
I’ll let you decide which archetype @ConceptualJames fits.
Will you be releasing the Insurrection Barbie in time for the holidays, @Mattel?

Being an exceptionally talented musician is one thing. But to stand before such high-caliber fellow musicians, a large audience, and cameras—all while remaining composed, communicating skillfully and effectively, showing genuine enjoyment, and staying focused on the creative process—that is what truly amazes me.

In the past, there was little reason to deal with cranks like @ConceptualJames and his conspiracy-addled handler @SovMichael.
Michael O’Fallon and James Lindsay argue with a straight face that NatCon/Yoram Hazony Jews, the Roman Catholic Church, Peter Thiel, China, Claremont Institute and a host of other NGOs, and anyone who advocates living in red states next to other people of like mind who don’t want to trans your kids are all part of a larger conspiracy to balkanize and destroy the United States of America.
At this point, the conspiracy is so large that it seems to include most of those leading on the right. Again, this is all so degraded and stupid I have little desire to speak about it.
But these two are vicious and able to put lies together and spend all their time doing so. They tried, unsuccessfully, to get me fired from Blaze Media. No warning. No straight talk with me. They just went around my back, cast aspersions, and strung a narrative that was the same thing as what the Antifa-adjacent Jason Wilson at The Guardian was saying at the time.
In other words, it’s clear to me that they worked with the worst of the left to attack me.
Lindsay—an atheist math PhD who voted for Hilary Clinton for President, seems happy to distance himself from MAGA now and says he would vote for the Democrat over Vice President JD Vance in 2028, and isn’t sure about Marco Rubio, either—became a supposed fellow traveler on the right a few years ago, which is also when he began reading some political philosophy books and other content about the right on his own for the first time in his life.
Instead of gratitude for being invited in for his good work attacking wokeness, which I and others were happy to do for him, getting him speaking gigs, etc., he turned on all of us and now lies and calls us slurs on the daily.
The best steelman I can give him is that he saw there were people on the right who are nuts or further to the right than he is, and then decided to attack the lot of us as bad actors, and anoint himself as Gatekeeper King.
The claim he and his crazed handler actually make, however, is that there is a conspiracy of a small but powerful group people on the right who are attempting to control and subvert everything to hasten the destruction of America to pave the way for tyranny. They then “just ask questions” and “connect” tenuous dots to slime people.
Sound (ironically) familiar?
Sadly, we live in a retarded clown world. I don’t wish it so, but it’s true. Myself and my actual compadres aren’t part of some large apparatus that can employ younger attack dogs to defend us against people who have the time and motive to post garbage all day calling us vile names (Nazis and fascists seem to be preferred).
These stretched stories are comforting for people who are understandably confused about what’s going on, and desire a simple template to comprehend it.
But good people in the midst of doing serious things—people who’ve spent their whole lives studying America and teaching a generation of leaders dedicate to saving it while building new institutions and businesses with the same goal—don’t appreciate being slandered and lied about by grifters who as they speak are actively doing what they profess to be against: which is to rip this coalition apart.
The next question is: who’s paying for this divisive op? Clearly, *some* Jewish money is devoted to Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee now. Whatever the intent, it’s going to the worst spokesmen possible for their cause at the worst possible time. This was part of my friendly message to Israel last week. For which, predictably, I’ve been called an anti-Semite by the usual suspects. As I tried to say in Jerusalem: this is not a productive approach.
americanmind.org/salvo/israe…
But the plump Tweedles' “anti-semitism” campaign is fairly new. There are obviously other, larger forces at play underneath that.
Who are they?
I would be grateful if some of you could look into it.
