I am honoured to receive the Letters of Credence of H.E. Mr. Michael Lotem, the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel @Israel to the Republic of Somaliland, marking a historic milestone in our diplomatic relations.
As the first Ambassador accredited to Somaliland by a United Nations Member State, his appointment heralds a new chapter in IsraelโSomaliland relations, founded on mutual respect, friendship, and a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and partnership.
Excellency Ambassador Herman J. Cohen, thank you sincerely for your steadfast support for Somalilandโs nationhood and for the profound wisdom and conviction reflected in your words in support of our nation and its people.

Hundreds gathered in Somaliland's capital, Hargeisa, waving American and Somaliland flags after President Trump described Somaliland as "a totally different country" from Somalia. I welcome his acknowledgment of Somaliland's distinct identity. Since restoring its independence in 1991, Somaliland has built democratic institutions, held competitive elections, and demonstrated its commitment to democracy through peaceful transfers of power, most recently in 2024. The United States should now take the next step and formally recognize Somaliland as an independent nation.

Political rhetoric and desperate act of destabilization of a failed President from a failed state cannot and will not change historical and geographic realities of the Republic of Somaliland, a nation that has tremendously succeeded where HSM has failed.
