Afghanistan five years on: a neglected reality euppublishingblog.com/2026/0… via @EdinburghUP
Five years have passed since the government collapsed in Afghanistan. Did we learn anything?
The Special Issue Afghanistan: A Neglected Reality euppublishing.com/doi/10.336… is now available.
It addresses some crucial questions: How did the Afghan Government collapse in 2021? How did an international mission fail?
My new article with Edinburgh University Press

It was a great pleasure to discuss Taxation in Umayyad Khurasan at the Near Eastern Studies Seminar Series. This room once hosted eminent scholars like Einstein, whose life story and work remind us of the value of universities in developing human societies.
The Buddha's Road, from India to Bactria, Sogdiana and China. It was a pleasure to visit Hexi Corridor.
ASPS Conference. It was a pleasure to meet scholars and friends, learning from them and presenting my work. Thanks to the ASPS conference organisers specially our dear Robert Haug.

An amasing summer school programme at Lanzhou University, China. It offers an excellent opportunity for students to see the geography and climate of the Hexi corridor and how people responded to that throughout history.

It was a pleasure meeting scholars at Mir Alishir Navayi's symposium.
I received an award from His Excellency the President of Uzbekistan, presented to me by Mr. Normat Tursonov, the governor of Navoi Region.
Navayi reconnected the Turko-Persian world once more.
