I attended a sci-fi convention yesterday, and one speaker started her talk with "here are questions you should _not_ be asking me". Tempted to adapt the format to scientific talks.

In short, a mathematician called Hans Freudenthal constructed an artificial language to communicate with aliens. His goal was "a language that can be understood by a person not acquainted with any of our natural languages, or even their syntactic structures".

I saw that (super cool) video of Bobby McFerrin doing musical zero-shot learning with the audience, and it reminded me of the most boring book I have ever read (but in a fascinating way!) -- "Lincos: Design of a Language for Cosmic Intercourse". youtu.be/ne6tB2KiZuk

Zoom is easier, but has so many annoying UI issues (that are easy to fix!) it boggles the mind. I suspect it's one of those cases where they let the developers create the UI?
