This week, ICS has been undertaking theoretical training in Drone Mapping and Orthophoto Production for Conservation Monitoring, funded by the Seychelles Conservation and Climate Adaptation Trust (SeyCCAT). The practical session will take place on Aride.

Four of our conservation rangers recently attended a License Skipper training where they gained valuable knowledge on basic safety and security principles. In a fire fighting session facilitated by the Seychelles Maritime Academy.

As we end our series on World Migratory Bird Day, today we meet the "Kavalye' from the shores of Ile Plate. With its long bluish-grey legs, a straight-up neck, and that proud little walk the Crab Plover is a true character of our shores.

World Migratory Bird Day Meet the Bar-tailed Godwit who travels from the Arctic Tundra to land on Alphonse making seasonal movements between separate breeding and wintering grounds. The waters of Alphonse provide essential habitats for refuelling for these tired visitors.

World Migratory Bird Day Meet the Ruddy Turnstone | Arenaria interpres Known in Creole as Bezroz, the Ruddy Turnstone is a migratory shorebird recorded on Desroches Island. Breeding in the Arctic regions, it travels to warmer coastal areas during the non-breeding season.

🐢 With the start of the Hawksbill nesting season, our team has begun frequent routine patrols along Grand Barbe, Silhouette. This 2km beach is an important nesting site for both hawksbill and green turtles, with generations of turtles returning to these white sands.

Our team on Ile Plate conducted its first conservation presentation on the island, this month. Join our team every Friday at 5pm to learn about the conservation work ICS is conducting on the island. You can also join and be part of conservation activities, just contact our team.

The nesting Hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) season is happening on Ile Plate, as the island’s shores welcome back the critically endangered species to lay their eggs this nesting season. Since August, our team has recorded 5 successful Hawksbill sea turtle nests.

This week our team on Silhouette is hosting the all boys Eco-school holiday programme which got underway on Tuesday. Orientation and presentation were the order of business on the first day and in the afternoon the boys enjoyed a beach cleaning activity at Anse Lascar.

A rare sighting Recently, our team on Alphonse sighted a Madagascar Pratincole, a first for the Amirantes Group. These birds are endemic breeders to Madagascar. In May, the bird migrates to the coast of East Africa for the winter and one ended up on Alphonse.
