On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, just after 1 a.m., IMPD East District officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of N Mitthoefer Road on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they located an adult male with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) transported the male to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later died. Homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. Through the course of the investigation, a 15-year-old male suspect was identified. Detectives presented their findings to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO), and a murder and robbery with serious bodily injury warrant was issued for the 15-year-old's arrest. On October 5, 2026, VCU detectives, along with K9 and North District officers, located and arrested him without issue in the 3500 block of E 38th Street. As with any person arrested, the suspect is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. IP260045244

𝑺𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒌 𝒊𝒔 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆! 😎 As many kids have more free time, IMPD has launched our “Stay Aware, Show You Care” campaign with tips to help parents and guardians stay connected and informed. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤’𝐬 𝐓𝐢𝐩: 𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. ☀️ Talk with your kids about curfew, and decide how often they should check in ☀️Utilize location-sharing apps to our child. If you are using a location-tracking app, be honest about it. Explain that it’s a tool for safety, not a lack of trust ☀️Know where your kids are and who they’re with ☀️Establish rules about parties, gatherings, and sleepovers ☀️Set expectations for social media and phone use ☀️Make sure your child always has a safe ride home plan ☀️Know the parents of your child’s friends whenever possible. Having their contact information in your phone is essential for emergencies or quick plan changes. ☀️Keep communication open. Kids are more likely to follow rules when they feel heard. Starting these conversations early builds trust and sets the tone for a safe and fun summer ahead!
