Yesterday, we met with some residents affected by Phase 1 of the 110 km Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road project in Ibadan. These residents were omitted when we paid compensation to other affected residents after the initial verification and valuation exercises were conducted.
I informed them that we had already approved a payment of about N4.6B to cover all outstanding payments to those affected by the Phase 1 development. I also promised that compensation will be made to those affected by Phase 2 before the end of this year.
I restated what I had said during a previous meeting with residents that densely populated areas will be fenced off at the 75m corridor mark to reduce the number of those affected by the construction of this important project.

I have seen the reactions to his videos today concerning the Circular Road demolition and complaints from some affected property owners about the compensation they may have received.
While compensation may never fully reflect the emotional and financial value people attach to their properties, it is important to understand that land acquisition follows established legal procedures. Under Nigeria’s land laws, land is vested in the state and held in trust by the Governor, while compensation is subject to applicable legal provisions. The reality is that adequate compensation remains a challenge across Nigeria.
What stands out about this administration is its willingness to listen, engage and extend consideration beyond simply looking at who has proper land documentation. The decision to ensure that affected individuals are considered for compensation reflects a government that recognises the people behind the properties.
Leadership is not just about making difficult decisions, it is also about listening, showing empathy and taking responsibility for the welfare of the people.
These are the qualities we must acknowledge and celebrate. H.E. Seyi Makinde continues to demonstrate why he is regarded by many as a people oriented Governor.
