If you are traveling into Northwest Indiana in the next few days, please fill up with gas prior to entering Lake or Porter Counties. Fill up in Illinois if traveling east along I-80/94, Michigan or LaPorte County if traveling west on I-94, and in the Lafayette area if traveling north on I-65 from the Indianapolis area. Due to power outages, the gas stations that are open are very busy and may run out of fuel, both gasoline and diesel, at the current rate of need with generators running.
Also, many secondary roads remain blocked with down wires and trees that will take days to be cleared. Residents of Lake, Huntington, Elkhart and Porter counties are asked to contact Indiana 211 by calling 2-1-1 (or 866-211-9966) or by going to on.in.gov/IN-211 to report storm damage from that occurred June 11, 2026.
