Happy I was able to visit my friend @Bucknell_BB HC Scott Heather today. Emotional day but he is fighting and getting stronger. 🙏 for him and his family, they need our support. zeffy.com/en-US/donation-for…

The baseball community here in Connecticut unexpectedly lost a true gem this week. As his family embarks on a journey without Kevin, please consider supporting them via the donation link below or simply via prayer. Love and miss you, Hubes. Rest easy ❤️ gofundme.com/f/in-memory-of-…

My two cents…
A question that needs to be debated and AT LEAST considered. This is for all you catching gurus, @MLBNetwork guys, podcasters, coaches, and wouldn’t mind hearing from you pitchers on this subject. Best part of automated strike zone I see is a pitcher might regain a target!

So many coaching parallels here… “Teach to the problem instead of teaching to the tools.”
.@elonmusk explains that the best way to teach kids is to help them learn and remember principles and concepts:

Stress “REALITY” Don’t mistake any/all decision-making within training as being “game-like” decisions. What information does the athlete need to see/feel to make a decision? In what span of time? Are we replicating that challenge, or creating a decision irrelevant of the game?
Players must train under varying constraints to develop adaptability. If the game presents changing problems, training should prepare them for that reality.

What’s a “good miss” for you? What’s a “bad miss” for you? Are you commending yourself for that “good miss” as much as success itself, especially in the practice environment?

Loved Bob Ueker. Love this movie. HATE how Willy Mays Hayes and Jake Taylor hit the bags…
The magic of Major League doesn’t exist without Bob Uecker. His commentary was perfect and no other voice could have filled that role. A legendary commentator whose voice will be missed forever. Rest easy Bob.

Sound process & identifying the tools most correlated to production is vital. But we can’t become so hyper-focused on ingredients that we lose sight of the actual meal. Inputs are only as good as the outputs they help produce. A balancing act to keep both in perspective, for sure

I reference this Votto clip a lot w/ infielders, but trade barrel control for glove action i.e. can you press, funnel, and/or work low to high on the same short hop? The best can take a controlled, predictable environment and interact with it in a variety of ways the game demands
Joey Votto preaching 🔥 🔥 Build hitters, not swingers. The best can do anything at anytime  Can you control ball flight off tee? Front toss? BP? Machine? Dominate one then move to the next #dodamage

Thought: Maybe there’s some merit to “situational rounds” beyond giving up an out for a 90. They train the ability to hunt a zone in the name of getting the barrel to the top, bottom, inside, and/or outside of the ball. Similar game as hammering carry, cut, sink, depth, or sweep

My two cents…
This sentence from a coach stuck with me long enough that I made a video: Mechanics have little impact on commanding a baseball or throwing strikes Is it crazy enough to be true? Is it all in the fingers? In your head? Neither? Both?! Tease below, full vid in thread!

Challenge the body & hand’s ability to recognize & adapt to a wide variety of throwing variance, & command will improve. It’s why INFers usually don’t have trouble throwing strikes when asked to take the mound. They’re used to throwing from a wide range of gears, slots, & grips.

Good stuff! Is the inverse of this available i.e. the bottom 100 MLB hitters in wRC+ from the ‘24 season graded out in bat speed, bat to ball, and swing decisions? % of each bucket scoring below 45 in BSG, SFG, or SDG
This is a graph displaying how the Top 100 MLB hitters in wRC+ from the 2024 season graded out in Bat Speed, Bat-to-Ball and Swing Decisions. Results are simple, you should find someone who helps you develop and control bat speed. 🧵
