The Dorado Campus event was officially opened by Vice Chancellor Prof. Osmund D. Mwandemele. Speaking at the official opening, Prof, Osmund D. Mwandemele, IUM Vice Chancellor emphasised the importance of this year's theme, stating that Heritage represents accumulated wisdom, values, languages, traditions, histories and the ways of life passed on from one generation to another, while Unity on the other hand, does not necessarily mean that we should all be culturally identical. "IUM's strength lies not in everyone being culturally identical, but in people of different backgrounds recognising that they belong to one institution", said Prof. Mwandemele.
