Thank you @LibnOfCongress! Rustin is definitely an American every American should know! This book is arguably the best I've read this year. Sad to find that so many of his perspectives resonate with current issues, but I am grateful that his strong voice endures!
Bayard Rustin championed the rights of African Americans, unions and the LGBTQ+ community. He was a close confidant of A. Philip Randolph & Martin Luther King, Jr. at the height of the Civil Rights movement.

Sharing the unsurprising news that the Presidential Records Act (44 U.S.C. Chapter 22) doesn't ask departing presidents "to negotiate" what @USNatArchives collects after they leave office. Records turnover is required!

P.S. Note that the event was part of Founders Day which was celebrated for many years in the month of December! The first one took place on Dec 11, 1913. See collections.carli.illinois.e…

Anyone who's researched in archival collections holds onto the hope of uncovering something like this. bit.ly/3EUsaYn Proof that patience mixed with curiosity can make humanity's secrets come to light. Well done, @KlugeCtr scholar Claudy Op den Kamp! @librarycongress
Great poster @peripheralmss team! Thanks for writing it up in the blog post, too. My compliments to the team's persistence through all of these challenges. You all are awesome! #midwestmss

#AskAnArchivist What's the spookiest building in your institutional history? Here's @IL_Wesleyan's second one & it served us from 1970-1968. It survived a tornado in 1903! The 1/2 basement was roofed over after a fire destroyed everything else in 1943. See bit.ly/3g1Hzfc
Sooo glad you asked #AskAnArchivist! Reasons we can't vary: legal and privacy concerns are biggies. Something all @archivists know and love is a policy. Here's the one we use @theameslibrary @IL_Wesleyan iwu.edu/library/information/…
To kick things off, let's start with the perennial favorite, "why aren't all of your collections digitized?" Want to know the answer? #AskAnArchivist!
Tomorrow is #AskAnArchivist Day! Members of @archivists_org will join together to respond to any & all questions about archives & archival work. Tag me for @IL_Wesleyan questions & include #AskAnArchivist. Or just follow that hashtag to see what others are curious about!

ALT Illinois Wesleyan University ca. 1895. Pictured (L to R): The Main Building (built 1870; later known as Old Main and Hedding Hall, then Duration Hall after the fire of 1943), Old North (built 1856) and Behr Observatory (built 1895). These three buildings represent the entire campus until the Science Building (later known as Stevenson and now home to the School of Nursing) was built in 1910.
On hearing of the passing of jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis this week, I recalled that @iwu_bsu and @IWUSenate once brought his group to play @IL_Wesleyan. See collections.carli.illinois.e… @IWU_AlumniAssoc
Hurray for transparency of federally funded research! When research is openly shared, knowledge can increase exponentially! @WHOSTP @WhiteHouse

So happy to be open without any access limitations again! Kudos to @IL_Wesleyan Physical Plant and CORE for completing the work ahead of schedule! At least they didn't have to go all the way down to the ground as they did on the initial @theameslibrary construction project ;-)

Replying to @IWUWC
2/2 The next interim director of the WCTS, Prof. Jarvis-Freeman starts Aug 1, which is also my last day. I know you’ll enjoy her guidance and support! Take care, stay cool, and write on!
Looking forward to the in-person celebration of these great @IL_Wesleyan alumni! And to adding them to the new online display of past @IWU_AlumniAssoc Award winners digitalcommons.iwu.edu/alumn…! Thx to our LibServices student assistants @theameslibrary for helping compile the details!
Despite working in different arenas — medicine, higher education, and the intersection of performance and activism — Illinois Wesleyan’s 2022 Alumni Award winners share the common bond of serving their communities.
