Bringing back the traditional study.
Distinct from a sterile modern home office, the home study reclaims a space for quiet contemplation, intellectual hobbies, and personal retreat.

'Ten Cents a Ride.' (1942) Louis Bouché is known as a painter of the American scene. In a 1962 New York Times review, the art critic Stuart Preston described him as 'an American realist who finds poetry, but not obvious poetry, in the commonplace.'

Best anecdote in Carol Thatcher's book about her father is when Sir Denis boarded a train at Paddington in which the only empty compartment was reserved for Rosewood Psychiatric Hospital.
Denis travelled alone and in comfort as far as Reading when "all these chaps piled in", accompanied by a male nurse, who counted them before the train moved off.
'One, two, three, four ... who are you?"
"I'm the Prime Minister's husband."
"Six, seven, eight, nine..."

"The most important sentence in a book is the first sentence. Everything follows from it. The first words have to stop the reader in his tracks and tell him that he's in a different place now, that he's entered the world of the book."
