Great news! @BBCFOUR4 will be marking Bill Oddie's unique wildlife TV career on the evening of Sunday 16th August: starting at 7pm with The Best of Bill Oddie Goes Wild, followed by Birding with Bill Oddie: Bill’s Beginnings, and finally Bill Oddie’s Top Ten Birds. Please RT!
This from a vocal supporter of shooting. It seems that stepping on leaves is unforgivable, but blasting away at geese, woodcock and snipe is fine. The inevitable disturbance of flocks of thousands of waterbirds at a vulnerable time of year is fine. Make it make sense.

I can’t begin to tell you how upsetting and disheartening it is to recover a tag that we had fitted to a young White-tailed Eagle just a few months previously, and which had clearly been cut off the bird. This happened twice this autumn and a third bird is also missing.
We're deeply concerned that three White-tailed Eagles have disappeared in suspicious circumstances.
The trackers of two eagles, including a chick from Sussex, were found dumped having been cut off with a sharp instrument.

On this day in 1998 I answered the door to my house on Iona, where I lived. It was Logie, who offered me a dinghy ride across to Mull for a few beers with some Iona boys.
It was the last time I ever saw him, or three other Iona lads.

Hi EA. I told you about an illegal waste dump next to my river and you wrote me a letter saying you weren’t going to do anything. Would you like to reconsider that decision, shut the site down & order the landowner to remove the waste?
Location is here, letter & photos below:

And on it goes. And the longer it goes on, the deeper into the mire shooters and gamekeepers are dragged. And the more damage it does to shooting’s reputation. A rapid ban is the best outcome for wildlife clearly, but also (not so obviously) for all responsible shooters.

For a handful of nature writers, I want to read all that they write. The common traits? Knowledge, understanding, clarity of thought, and a knack for transferring it all to the page with humour and enthusiasm. Mark is one of them. And his co-author is very good too.

17 months! What's the hold up? Why isn't this a priority for @NatureScot ?

This has received no publicity but is damning. A clear explanation of why this type of reintroduction is not just a distraction and a waste of resources but is ACTIVELY HARMFUL to conservation. Environmental journalists please note and please publicise.
