As the old joke goes... if you don't know what something was or what it was used for, then clearly it was "cultic."
While a joke, there is certainly some truth there.
I hate when a scholar that you know is really smart says something dumb and now you don't know if you should correct it in your paper or if it is a trap and you are the dumb one.

I still call Mumbai “Bombay” most of the time because, growing up, it was Bombay, and I went there.
I’m still calling Turkey “Turkey” because it is Turkey, and I’m not Turkish, so it is not whatever the new name is to me. Burma is still a country in the atlas of my mind. Upper Volta would be except it changed to Burkina Faso the day before my 8th grade geography test on Africa, and Mr. Lake, the teacher, said we had to get it right.
Pity me, I came of age with the fall of the Berlin Wall and went from knowing how many republics were in the USSR (15) to having to learn Russia and all the new countries of Eastern Europe and Asia.
The Gulf of Mexico is to the south of us. Lake Ontario is to the north of us and SI is Sports Illustrated, which means Artificial Intelligence must be AI, not SI.
Can we stop with all the name changes, please? I can’t keep up. The enemy is age and habit, not me.
Declaring one the enemy for not embracing the new speak is one of the annoying habits of the Left. I’ll pass on “super intelligence” because it actually is not all that super, but it is very artificial.

In college a kid that had trained in some martial art tried to show off to some girls we knew by having a friendly wrestling match with me. I outweighed him by 20 kgs, but he was highly trained. Almost instantly, the kid got me on the ground and went for an arm bar... (1/2)
I feel very confident saying that Trump is the dumbest president to ever president (for any country).
Heck, he is dumber the president of any high school government in America
Trump moves to ban student loans for useless liberal arts degrees.

Anyone interested in taking part in an #RAI workshop on divination? I am trying to put something together. #Assyriology.
Moving from a country that pays a scholarship to one thay pays a salary has provencto be a major administrative problem.
Particularly as germany pays based on past experiance but the school struggles to realize that my Ph.D. scholarship is the equivalent of a german salary.
What gave you that little bit extra motivation to finish your Ph.D?
Mine was definitly a little bit of spite. Having three siblings, a parent, and a spouse with (or about to have) master's degrees, I needed to prove I was better than them.
I don't really follow ed sheeran, but this is a super accurate stance. Regardless of how you feel about a particular political/humanitarian issue, this demand that every person in the public eye make an extreme statement, OR ELSE, is incredibly dangerous, self obsessed, and vapid
Well, as someone who bought a ticket and has been wanting to see him in concert for years, I’m disappointed.
As someone who also recognizes that their is a blatant genocide happening, leaving a tour for “solidarity” and costing people their jobs by getting a tour cancelled, is not going to stop Israel from bombing children.
I don’t think Ed Sheeran is a terrible person at all, he was put into an impossible situation to navigate.
His job is to write and perform music that unites people and he’s pretty successful at doing it. He’s not an activist, a politician or a commentator and people need to stop holding these celebrities to such ridiculous standards.
Are there any Assyriology journals thay take tablet translations without lengthy discussions attached to them?
I have like 25 tablets to publish, but they are all nearly identical short administrative tablets that don't really have much very interesting about them
It has come to my attention that i need to find a scientific editor for my monograph (a study of a fortress society in the Late OB, which also heavily utilizes Network analysis)
Any recommendations on scholars to ask? – at Fulda, Germany
How long do you wait to get a response from a journal before looking for other journals to submit to?
I submitted an article to JBL back in December and have not gotten anything back on it. – at Würzburg, Bayern
When you see a news story posted and think "that sounds interesting" only to realize you wrote it like a year and a half ago. 😂

I was on NPR recently talking about higher ed and one thing I said and deeply believe is that 95% of college athletic programs have no reason to exist. They’re a huge money suck, yet we have been brainwashed into acting as if playing sports in college is a sacred human right.
Any #Assyriologists out there want to quickly read over the translations I did for some short administrative tablets and tell me if I'm messed anything up?
