Nobody opposes increasing wages. But the Labour government don't seem to understand that businesses need to make a profit to afford pay increases.
When you tax businesses to death there isn't any profit to pay for your pay increases. Its called maths.

Our Advisory Board Member, @TheBluetrot says that the Labour government is delivering a Budget to prepare for an election not the needs of the country.
We need an urgent change in direction. We are on the path to ruin. The government must listen.
scotsman.com/news/opinion/co…
Our Advisory Board Member, Roger Bootle, says the Budget today is taking place in dangerous circumstances.
Huge government borrowing costs, soaring debt, taxes and massive government spending. IT IS NOT SUSTAINABLE.
telegraph.co.uk/business/202…
The government today will announce more taxes, more spending, no change on net-zero, no real moves on deregulating. That is why the British economy is stagnating.
We need a radical change of direction. We need capitalism to come back.
spectator.com/podcast/burnha…
All this government is capable of doing is tax and spend, tax and spend, borrow to plug the gap.
It is not sustainable. It is not affordable. It is not fair on British businesses and consumers.
Shrink the State. Someone needs to say it and we will.m

The IBN isn't political. We support any party that follows policies that we support.
But our Prime Minister is a people pleaser. He wants to spend, borrow and give hand outs that we cannot afford.
It is a recipe for disaster and we will all pay for it.

We all want to see wage increases. Nobody disagrees with increasing wages...but Chancellor, your governemnt has taxed businesses to death.
We cannot pay ourselves more than we earn. Where is the money coming from?
cityam.com/healey-to-increas…
Our Chair @john4IBN urges the governemnt to adopt a radical change in dierection to stimulate economic growth.
High taxation, regulation, net-zero, a huge state its killing UK businesses.
We need a capitalist economy to improve living standards.

Economist @LiamHalligan says that France has been living beyond her means for far too long. Not so different to us in the UK.
The Chancellor needs to look to France to remind us that excessive tax, bloated spending and huge borrowing is not good.

With the Budget due to take plece on Wednesday, our Advisory Board Member, Roger Bootle reflects on the challenges facing the country.
A Healey, unprecedented debt, soaring energy bills, huge state spending, taxes, its all like the 1970s.
telegraph.co.uk/business/202…
Our Chair @john4IBN says that the UK economy faces disaster unless the government adopts more pro-enterprise, pro-business policies.
Our recent paper on measures to support business calls for a range of measures to facilitate growth.

The realities under this government.
HMRC writes off billions in tax as businesses collapse.
Net zero, a bloated state, regulation and soaring taxes are destroying the private sector.
We need a massive change in policy.
telegraph.co.uk/money/tax/ne…
Returning to the orbit of Brussels would be a disaster for the British economy and for family run and family owned business.
We need the government to slash regulation, cut tax and let businesses thrive, not tinker with treaties with Brussels.
independent.co.uk/news/uk/po…
Replying to @LiamHalligan
@LiamHalligan is absolutely right. We need business groups like ours to speak up for family businesses.
The state is expanding, taxes are soaring as is borrowing.
We need to live within our means and let business thrive.
cityam.com/business-needs-to…
Advisory Board member @TheBluetrot says the state cannot solve the national care crisis.
The Prime Minister has promise state funded social care, but it is unaffordable.
We need a private sector led solution and a competitive market to lower prices.

Ahead of John Healey's first Budget, a reminder that companies don’t pay tax - people do. And that also applies to energy suppliers and to banks.
In more technical terms, companies are only legal entities and cannot bear the economic burden of tax themselves. Tax increases are therefore always passed on to real people.
Shareholders will bear some of the cost through lower profits and dividends, although many 'ordinary' people own shares through their pension funds.
But customers will also pay through higher prices, while employees will face lower wages.
Everyone may lose if companies cut jobs and investment or move activity overseas.
So, whenever someone says, “companies should pay their fair share” or “tax banks, not workers”, ask them where the money will really come from… 🤔
The government is borrowing an unprecedented amount- around £369million a day.
Debit is spiralling out of control, which means we are paying more than ever in interest payments.
The government MUST reduce spending, starting with welfare.

Successive Chancellors have pledged to cut regulation.
Successive Chancellors have failed to do so. Forgive us if we don't hold our breath.
We were the only business group who produced a full regulation cutting report- its online Chnacellor have a read.

The national interest should come before Net-Zero, without doubt.
The Energy Secretary needs to ditch her ideology and put the country first and allow new drilling at Rosebank.
Country before Net-Zero.

Barnier, the former chief negotiator of the EU has said the Prime Minister must seek the consent of the British people before seeking a new relationship with the EU.
Can't believe we're saying this- but we agree with Barnier. The PM has no mandate.
