I am excited to share that our new Perspective “Formation of necromass-derived soil organic carbon determined by microbial death pathways” is out now in @NatureGeoscience. This was a great collaborative effort with @KyleMoJo, @indimansour, @mrillig and @JLehmannCornell ...

15 women are listed on the 2020 ISI Highly Cited Researchers List for Ecology and the Environment (of 212 awardees). I'm proud to be on that list. I also know so many deserving female ecologists who ought to be there too. Think before you cite, here's why bit.ly/3lP96ys

The idea that North America was some untouched, “pristine” wilderness before colonizers showed up is actually a concept rooted in anti-Indigeneity and I want y’all to throw it out of your minds.

yay #LGBTQSTEMDay! I'm India (she/her) and I'm a queer microbial community ecologist #BiInSci. I'm also excited about #BioArt -- seen here exploring decay and waste at the Panke River through observation/participatory action last year with @ArtLaboratoryB @JamesWh70887077

Replying to @LilianaPinek
@LilianaPinek and me: friends, flatmates and now CO-FIRST-AUTHORS (Goji the rabbit also made valuable contributions). We discuss environmental rate of change (RoC) across scales in ecology along with @mrillig @Milshable & @RyoMasahiro in Biological Reviews onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

We found that few studies overall investigate env. drivers using an RoC approach (instead abruptly change conditions), that temperature is by far the most-studied factor using RoC methods, and that the community and ecosystem levels are understudied.

Interesting journal club discussion about this paper, including perspectives on boundaries, etiquette and #openscience. It also inspired a few lab members to join -- looking forward to hearing what you have to say @LilianaPinek and @GrunfeldLeonie!

I am seeing a lot of people in #STEM and #chemtwitter making posts in support of protests and statements of commitment to #DiversityandInclusion in STEM. As someone who is #BlackinSTEM that has spent time in both industry and academia, I would like to say talk is cheap. 1/n

Ecologists, read about the regular experiences of your colleagues. PIs, how do you plan for the safety of your POC trainees in the field?
I had the opportunity to share some of my thoughts and experiences with birding/studying birds while Black, along with some great colleagues of mine. It’s important that you read this. Thank you @ejleven @cnn cnn.com/2020/05/27/us/birdwa…

great discussion about microbial biospherics during our lab mtg today
Had our first joint lab meeting (virtual) with Dr. Seppe Kuehn's lab in Illinois, learning about their cool work on closed ecological systems Our first paper on this: Microbial biospherics: The experimental study of ecosystem function and evolution pnas.org/content/116/23/1109…
