The reported treatment of people by Punjab Police to prevent them from attending a peaceful protest demanding justice for Parminder Jhota is deeply condemnable. Setting up strict barricades, stopping protesters from reaching the protest site, and allowing the situation to escalate into clashes raise serious questions about the protection of democratic rights and freedom of expression in Punjab. A demand for justice should be answered with transparency and lawful action, not intimidation or unnecessary restrictions. The police must exercise restraint, respect the dignity of citizens, and ensure that peaceful protesters are not treated as enemies of the state. In a democracy, the right to peaceful protest is fundamental, and the responsibility of the police is to maintain law and order while protecting citizens' constitutional rights. If the authorities believe that restrictions are necessary, they must explain their legal basis and apply them proportionately. The Punjab government and senior police officials must ensure an impartial review of the incident, establish accountability for any misconduct, and address the protesters' demand for justice. Barricades may block a road, but they must never become a barrier between citizens and justice.

This policeman hitting the protestor must be identified and punished. @PunjabPoliceInd
