The most expensive part of a hospital bill may never touch the hospital at all. A patient admitted for care has no way of knowing whether the price on a medical consumable reflects its actual cost or a markup fixed long before it ever reached the ward. That gap in information is, at its core, a public health issue. A survey of hospital consumables in Maharashtra found an IV infusion set with a trade price of ₹11.05 carrying a printed MRP of ₹325 ; a markup of 2,841%. A syringe procured at ₹6.75 carried an MRP of ₹57.20. A catheter procured at ₹29.41 carried an MRP of ₹310. These are not elective purchases. Patients cannot compare prices, seek alternatives, or question a number printed on a box while receiving care and the MRP itself is often fixed upstream by manufacturers and distributors, disconnected from the trade price by a wide, unexplained margin. The result is a system where the party bearing the cost has the least information to evaluate it. The regulatory gap is structural: scheduled medicines are capped under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. Most medical devices and consumables are not leaving both the pricing and the information around it almost entirely unmonitored. A review of these findings and clear guidelines on the permissible gap between trade procurement price and declared MRP have been recommended to the Department of Pharmaceuticals and the NPPA ; a step toward closing not just a pricing gap, but the information gap patients are left to bear alone. #PublicHealth #GoodGovernance #Leadership #TukaramMundhe moneycontrol.com/news/busine…

🚨 David Beckham on Cape Verde’s elimination after pushing Argentina to extra time in the FIFA World Cup: 🗣️ “This is the cruelest side of football. Cape Verde have been eliminated, but they leave this tournament with something far more important than just a scoreline—they leave with the respect of the entire football world. They took the defending world champions all the way into extra time and made Argentina fight for every single minute. Nobody expected that before kick-off. When I think about this performance, I think about Vozinha first. His saves kept Cape Verde alive when many teams would have collapsed. Then you have Deroy Duarte and Sydney Lopes, two players who will forever be remembered in their country’s football history. They scored against Argentina, they believed when so many people doubted them, and they gave millions of Cape Verdeans a night they will never forget. People will only remember that Argentina qualified, but those who truly understand football will remember how close Cape Verde came to creating one of the greatest upsets in World Cup history. They never hid, they never stopped running, and they never accepted that they were supposed to lose. Every challenge, every tackle, every attack showed a team playing with pride, courage, and absolute belief. This is not a story of failure. This is a story of a nation announcing itself to the football world. Cape Verde arrived at this World Cup as outsiders, but they leave having proven they belong on the biggest stage. They stretched the world champions to their absolute limit, forced them into extra time, and made them earn every second of their qualification. Football can be incredibly unfair. Sometimes the team that captures the hearts of everyone watching is not the team that advances. But no whistle can erase what Cape Verde have achieved. Vozinha, Deroy Duarte, Sydney Lopes, and every player wearing that shirt have inspired a generation. Argentina continue their journey, but Cape Verde leave this World Cup as heroes.”

A devastating day for us. We lost Anik Dutta today. He was one of the sharpest, most uncompromising filmmakers we had. In a business constantly driven by safe choices and market machinations, he genuinely didn’t care about playing the game. He spoke his mind, consequences be damned. When Bhooter Bhobishyot released, it completely redrew the map of Bengali cinema for all of us, proving that razor-sharp intelligence and commercial success could coexist. But beyond the biting satire, I will always remember his absolute reverence for the craft. Nobody understood, loved, and cared for Satyajit Ray’s cinema quite like he did. Thank you for the films, the unapologetic truth, and the fierce inspiration. Rest in peace, Anik-da. You will be so deeply missed.

The hospital bill was ₹78 lakhs. A 10-day stay. Nothing exotic. Nothing experimental. The family was stunned. Instead of calling a lawyer or begging the billing desk, they uploaded the entire bill into an AI system and asked it to audit every line. The AI flagged duplicate charges, illegal code stacking, inflated consumables, and procedures hospitals aren’t legally allowed to bill together. Then it drafted a formal dispute letter citing exact compliance violations. No emotion. No arguments. Just facts. Three days later, the revised bill came. ₹21.4 lakhs. No negotiation. No “discount.” Just correction. #Lesson: AI’s real power isn’t chat or creativity...it’s leverage. Hospitals depend on complexity and silence. AI reads everything and misses nothing. The question isn’t Can AI do this. It’s WHY aren’t we all using it? Save this. One day it could save you lakhs.

Well Done Spain. Pets are now legally considered family, not property. This groundbreaking change means animals will finally have legal protection in cases of abuse, divorce, and loss. Every paw deserves this love, respect, and recognition.

In a grave escalation, Pakistan launched multi-vector attacks along the western border using drones, UCAVs, artillery & missiles—targeting over 26 locations from Srinagar to Nalia. Indian Air Force bases at Udhampur, Pathankot, Adampur & Bhuj sustained limited damage. In a cowardly act, Pakistan also struck civilian infrastructure including Medicare centres & schools. India responded with swift precision strikes on identified military targets at Rafiqi, Chaklala, Rahim Yar Khan & more, ensuring minimal collateral damage. The Indian Army effectively countered #LoC intrusions, causing extensive damage to Pakistan’s forces. Troop movements on the Pakistani side signal intent to escalate. India remains in a high state of operational readiness, committed to non-escalation, provided there is mutual restraint. #OperationSindoor #PehalgamTerroristAttack #JusticeServed #PakistanPropaganda #FactCheck @rajnathsingh @DefenceMinIndia @SethSanjayMP @HQ_IDS_India @adgpi @indiannavy @IAF_MCC @PIB_India @PIBFactCheck

Mumbai Trivia - The first five star hotel in the city. No, it's not the Taj Mahal Hotel. That honour went to Juhu’s Sun N Sand hotel in 1962. The Taj didn’t have a swimming pool then and didn’t qualify.

Shark Tank nights are a tradition with my grandchildren - they never miss an episode. So, when they found out that I know some of the Sharks, their first question was, 'Can we meet them?' Recently, I had the chance to make that happen. Watching their excitement as they stepped onto the set, met the Sharks, and saw the filming in action were moments to cherish. The energy in the room—the pitches, the problem-solving, the conversations—was infectious, even for me. As a grandfather, these are the moments that matter. Exposing young minds to experiences that inspire curiosity and broaden their horizons is the best way to plant seeds for the future. Sometimes, all it takes is a spark—an idea, a conversation, or a moment—to show them that the world is full of possibilities waiting to be explored. @namitathapar @vineetasng @amangupta0303 @1kunalbahl @riteshagar

First off: Sony LIV series, Freedom At Midnight (FAM)—based on Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre’s gigantic bestseller of the same name—is currently the most important work on India, by Indians. Given the piercingly researched, strikingly visual source-material, it was always meant to be. No judgement on genres. What surprised me is the director to helm this grand historical narrative—about the transfer of power, from the British Crown to India’s democracy—is Nikkhil Advani, 53. He debuted with the romcom, Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003). His last film was the insane John Abraham actioner, Vedaa (2024). FAM, with Advani, was unexpected. “But it’s unconscious,” he tells me, about such switch in genres. Advani was at the success party of Rocket Boys (RB), that he’s the credited creator for. That’s also a first-rate Sony LIV show; on the life of post-Independence scientific institution builders, Homi Bhabha, Vikram Sarabhai, and the reason Advani sufficiently credits RB’s writer-director, Abhay Pannu, for FAM. At the party, Danish Khan and Saugata Mukherjee, Sony LIV’s content bosses, asked Advani, “So, what next?” He said, “Next glass of wine,” what else. Danish specifically meant to offer FAM, that he’d been eyeing to bring to screen since 2018. What do RB and FAM have in common? Column link in bio.
