1. Humble Jamnagar has been dominating headlines, thanks to the visit of US Secretary of State Rubio & Ambassador Gor. There’s been much suspicion, scepticism, even paranoia. This fear comes from all sides. Anti-Americanism and fear of our own private sector are chronic, deep-rooted & instinctive in India. We only undermine our national interest by not shedding it, & by dismissing our entrepreneurs as exploiters. #NationalInterest
2. The key talking point was Rubio & Gor being hosted by the Ambanis. Why are the Americans taking such interest in Indian refining? Why are they asking the Ambanis to buy Venezuelan oil? Why are they calling India a refining superpower & asking us to increase capacities? Or, to sum up, why were Rubio & Gor in Jamnagar & not in Delhi or Bengaluru as visiting dignitaries did in the past?
3. Why are the Ambanis (and India) being forced to buy oil from the most distant point possible (Venezuela) when Russia is so much closer? Of course, it must be arm-twisting to sell Venezuelan oil the US controls, & a ploy to wean us away from Russia to squeeze Putin. None of this passes the most cursory fact-check, but why let that confuse you out of a delicious outrage. India’s crude purchases from Russia haven’t dramatically declined and are unlikely to.
4. What does a nation of our size do when it’s blessed with almost no hydrocarbons? It starts refining at a global scale what others pump out of their soil or seabed. Without refining, crude is nothing. The global refining capacities were not keeping pace with rising energy consumption. India filled that gap. The Ambani foresight also lies in recognising the peculiar Venezuelan heavy crude challenge, & opportunity. If this made India a refining superpower, isn’t that something to be as proud of as tech & outsourcing in Bengaluru?
5. It’s been said often that if Bengaluru were to suffer a catastrophic power or internet outage, a lot of the world would come to a standstill. If that’s leverage, an element in our CNP, why shouldn’t refining be so? India should, if anything, add more refineries, & at scale. Even Reliance should build another Jamnagar, preferably along the eastern seaboard.
6. We undermine our national interest by dismissing our entrepreneurs as exploiters, not builders of India. The only thing wrong with the fact that India has the Ambanis, Tatas, Adanis, Birlas, Jindals & Bhartis is that there are so few of them. India needs some more. India has to learn to celebrate its entrepreneurs. Jamnagar is only a symbol & reminder of what India can become.

#BREAKING on Bar & Bench
Election Commission of India files counter affidavit in Supreme Court on plea against CEC's functioning; says petition built entirely on a single news report
What ECI says:
🔹 Affidavit approved unanimously by all three members: the CEC and both Election Commissioners
🔹 All three SIR orders (June 2025, October 2025, May 2026) were unanimous decisions of the Commission
🔹 Notes, queries or suggestions by the CEC or ECs while a file moves are not decisions of the Commission
🔹 Files go to one EC, then the other EC, then the CEC. In urgent cases, approval is taken electronically and recorded on file later
🔹 Any officer issuing orders beyond delegated powers will face action
🔹 July 28 work allocation order was issued by an Additional Secretary on deputation. Both ECs wrote to the Cabinet Secretary the next day. The order was never implemented after the ECs' joint direction of July 30
🔹 Form 6 has not been amended. Only the Centre can amend it. The SIR declaration is a separate document
🔹 Admits the online display could be read as an amendment. From October 21, the online application will be split into Form 6 and the declaration, as in the physical form
🔹 Unmapped voters need not attend hearings. BLOs will collect documents from their homes. Hearings only in exceptional cases, preferably online
🔹 ECINet: no name is added or deleted except by order of the ERO. A committee with experts from IIT and IISc has been set up to check compliance
🔹 Goa: of 97 "left out" voters, 88 had already been enrolled, 6 were abroad and 3 held Portuguese passports
🔹 West Bengal appeals against inclusion of voters were filed by officers of the CEO, West Bengal, under Supreme Court orders. "These matters were not brought to the Commission"
🔹 Plea to restrain the CEC is not maintainable. CEC can be removed only like a Supreme Court judge
🔹 Commission never released or authorised the release of any internal note or file to the media
🔹 Repeated challenges to EVMs already rejected by the Supreme Court
🔹 Short reply filed due to Dussehra vacation. ECI seeks liberty to file a detailed para-wise response

We are getting there. Once the dust of a developing economy settles down and the AQI and PPI both improve, India will be the blue-eyed boy of human civilisation.
I hope we march towards a “Dune”-kind of interplanetary civilisation laden with Hindu/Vedic aesthetics then.🤞🏻🧿

the best way to understand any engineered system is to trace:
- 1 bit of information
- 1 joule of energy
- 1 newton of force
from source to destination. once you can do this, your engineering task becomes much simpler. you will probably solve 5 or 6 problems on accident as you try to trace these flows.

never understood why LPs expect a bunch of MBAs to be good at venture capital.
There’s only two types of VCs I would trust with my money
1. super technical engineer who’s actually built and scaled companies.
2.humble & spiritually-aware archetype who’s exceptionally good at reading people
(2nd one is harder to find than 1st)
LPs will be choosing between:
-A16Z gaming fund VII (10b, fund VI underperformed S&P)
-“Mykonos Capital” (300m, ex Goldman Sachs Harvard grad whose relevant experience is 6 years as a principal at NEA)
-“Paperclip” (100m, ex Anthropic engineer anchoring with 20m of his own capital made through backing Cursor’s A)
I don’t think this is a hard decision

This is a very dated view of the VCs in India and very rage baitish. I think the ecosystem has become so much better. Companies like Astrobase, Airbound and Sarvam AI are able to raise well and fast. Also there have been spectacular outcomes in the last many years with companies like Groww, Eternal and Meesho.
Fintech and Commerce will always be big themes. Size of opportunity here is huge.
Why are Indian VCs so afraid to take risk and make money?
Someone should go to India and take risk and make money.
