Everyone is talking medicare cuts, let's look into it, shall we?
Where Is the Medicare Money Really Going?
Let’s keep the numbers simple, round for easy understanding.
✅ The current Medicare budget is about $900 billion per year.
📉 There’s a proposal to cut $900 billion over 10 years; that’s $90 billion per year, or roughly 10% of the annual budget.
👥 Medicare currently serves around 67 million people.
Now, here’s where it gets concerning:
📉 "Experts" estimate that cutting 10% of the Medicare budget could lead to 8.6 to 15.9 million people losing coverage. That’s 13% to 24% of all beneficiaries.
Let that sink in.
If just a 10% cut results in up to 24% of people losing coverage, what happens if we cut more? At that rate, cutting just 40% of the budget could mean no one is left with coverage.
Which raises the real question:
💭 Where is the remaining 60% of the Medicare budget going?
Is it being spent efficiently?
Is it reaching the people it’s meant to help?
Or is it disappearing into administrative overhead, mismanagement, or worse—waste and inefficiency?
And here's something else to think about:
🧐 When people argue against budget cuts, are they truly defending the needs of patients?
Or are they, perhaps unknowingly, defending the 60% of the budget that seems untouchable?
Could there be interests benefiting from that untouched slice of the pie?
It’s time we started asking harder questions—not just about how much we spend, but where and for whom.
Let the discussion rolling. Comment and share.

Great work by @USGSA in furthering the implementation of the @WhiteHouse memorandum on “Radical Transparency about Wasteful Spending”.
Effective today, the public contracting database, Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS), will now have 3 new data fields to increase transparency related to contracting actions for active contracts, such as “has this contract been closed out?” and “has there been a descoping action?”. Previously, modifications were limited to vague termination and cancellation actions. This update has been sent government-wide to all agency Senior Procurement Executives for immediate adoption.

Credit Card Update!
After 14 weeks, the program to audit unused/unneeded credit cards has expanded to 55 agencies resulting in ~610k de-activated cards.
As a reminder, at the start of the audit, there were ~4.6M active cards/accounts; more work to do!

Great work by the @usairforce in partnership with @DOGE in substantially reducing a wasteful program serviced by external consultants.
The Air Force Strategic Transformation Support I ("AFSTS I") was a $2.75B contract awarded to eight management consulting firms in 2020 to source “transformation Continuous Process Improvement (CPI), and organizational efficiency experts."
This ceiling has been reduced to $1.918B, with the $832M of unobligated savings realized for taxpayers. In addition to deobligations, the team is descoping $175M, bringing the total savings of this initiative to greater than $1B.
As a part of the review, and under the leadership of @SecDef, the @usairforce also rescinded the solicitation of AFSTS II (an extension of AFSTS I), which had a ceiling value of $3.8B.
