🌍🔍 In our final 2023 episode, we explore the impact of the @WorldBank's @InspectionPanel. Established 3⃣ decades ago, the Inspection Panel has been a beacon for redress in World Bank-funded projects.
But how effective is it really? From environmental assessments to indigenous rights, we dissect decades of work holding power to account.
Our guest is Ramanie Kunanayagam, who was, until a few weeks ago, the Chairperson of the Panel.

At #WBmeetings townhall with civil society, @WorldBank President Ajay Banga says “we will need a bigger bank” — with more lending comes more risk, and it is critical for the Bank to strengthen its accountability mechanisms and systems for remedying harm as it takes on that risk

We look forward to a conversation with Banga, and we will continue to push for #Accountability & #Remedy at the @WorldBank, especially in the development of the #EvolutionRoadmap.

In order to fulfill its mandate & achieve successful development outcomes, the @WorldBank must:
🗣️Center community voices,
📰Provide adequate access to information about projects & #Accountability measures, &
⚖️Commit to #Remedy & #ResponsibleExit when projects go wrong.

In his opening remarks, Banga said that the new vision of the @WorldBank should be responsive to its pillars, including #People. As the @InspectionPanel Chair said in a panel earlier today, this requires the Bank to view #Accountability constructively, rather than defensively.

In part, Banga's invitation came as a result of a question raised by CIEL campaigner @aubrey_manahan, who reminded the @WorldBank president that CIEL & partners reached out earlier this year to discuss this critical issue, but did not receive a reply.
