Today's Spanish WOTD is not a word but a fun fact: when Mexicans are trying to make a Spanish word into an English word, they jokingly add "-ation" to the end (like Americans add "-o" to an English word to make it sound like Spanish). Not sure if other Spanish speakers do this?

English has many pairs of words where '-th' was once added to make a noun out of the other, like 'width' and 'wide'. My favourites are the ones for which the link may not be obvious now, like: - 'mirth' and 'merry' - 'drought' and 'dry' - 'filth' and 'foul' - 'sloth' and 'slow'

Michigan prison officials have banned dictionaries in Spanish and Swahili, saying "if certain prisoners all decided to learn a very obscure language, they would be able to then speak freely in front of staff" and could organize without their knowledge. n.pr/3NfixVB

How do non-binary people identify themselves in highly gendered languages around the world? How are languages evolving as gender bounderies change? Fantastic work by @MinamiFunakoshi @ReutersGraphics; incredibly proud we dived into this topic reut.rs/3nS0qKH
