The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) on Thursday, September 11, 2025, signed a new Memorandum of Agreement seeking to improve transparency and integrity in the selection of judges and other key legal officials at the #SupremeCourtPH Session Hall in Manila.
Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, in his capacity as Ex Officio Chairperson of the JBC, led the ceremonial signing, along with JBC Regular Member, retired Court of Tax Appeals Associate Justice Erlinda Piñera Uy and IBP National President Atty. Allan G. Panolong.
Under the Agreement, IBP representatives will be officially deputized to conduct independent background investigations on applicants for judicial and key legal positions. This will help ensure that only those who meet the highest standards of competence, integrity, and impartiality are nominated.
Justice Piñera Uy highlighted the importance of the partnership, saying it “fortifies our shared mission to ensure that the selection process in the Judiciary, Office of the Ombudsman, and the Legal Education Board is guided by integrity, transparency, and excellence.”
