Advance voting opens today. Every party is selling you "fully costed".
Wrong question. NZ can always pay in NZ dollars. What it can't print is builders, nurses or diesel.
So I scored every party's fiscal plan on what it would actually do: jobs, inflation at the source, who gets the money, productive capacity, the external position, and whether they understand how the money works.
Greens 19 Te Pāti Māori 14 NZ First 13 Labour 12 Opportunity 12 National 6 ACT 4.
Out of 30. Nobody passes.

"The truck driver in Pakuranga helps pay off a lawyer's loan." No, Simeon. He doesn't. Not a cent.
When the government lends a student money, it creates the dollars and credits their account. No tradie's tax was collected and posted to a law degree. When the graduate repays, those dollars are deleted, drained back out like tax. They don't land in the truck driver's pocket either.
So nobody foots the bill. The worker and the graduate aren't on opposite sides of a ledger. Setting them against each other is the trick, and it runs on the same myth as "add it to the tab", that the government is a household counting coins. It issues the currency. The real limits are real resources and inflation, not a truck driver's tax bill.
"Someone always pays." Sure. Just never the person you keep pointing at.

Labour wants a truck driver in Pakuranga, a builder in Howick, and a tradie in Bucklands Beach to help pay off the student loans of lawyers and other high earners.
Let that sink in for a moment. Hardworking Kiwis footing the bill so that some of the highest earners in the country can pay off their degrees faster.
Students who borrow from taxpayers should be expected to pay it back. That's only fair on the millions of Kiwis who graft, pay their taxes and never ask for a handout.
We already have one of the most generous student support schemes in the western world. Apparently that's still not enough for Labour, who reckon a few hundred million more won't hurt.
Classic Labour. Add it to the tab. They've already racked up more than $18 billion in unfunded spending promises, and the gap between what they've promised and what they can actually pay for keeps growing.
National is taking a smarter, fairer path.
We want to help graduates get ahead by reducing the compulsory student loan repayment rate from 12% to 10%. Graduates keep more of what they earn while still paying back what they borrowed. No gimmicks, no shifting the burden onto everyone else, just a fairer deal for people who did the right thing and took out a loan in good faith.
Because here's the truth Labour won't say out loud. There's no such thing as free money. Someone always pays, and too often it's the tradie in East Auckland.
I'd rather focus on growing our economy, creating good jobs, backing our farmers, tradies, workers and small businesses, and giving people a real shot at getting ahead through hard work and ambition.
That's the real choice this election. Reward effort, or reward everyone else picking up the tab.

You cannot get educated by this self-propagating system in which people study to pass exams, and teach others to pass exams, but nobody knows anything.
You learn something by doing it yourself, by asking questions, by thinking, and by experimenting.

Lung protective ventilation isn't supposed to reverse established lung injury. It's meant to minimize perpetuation of injury in less-injured lung regions. It should remain standard of care in all mechanically ventilated COVID patients, regardless of their initial compliance.

Warm feet = good chance it's NOT cardiogenic shock.
