Congratulations Big Grove Brewery for setting a great example for sustainable practices in the craft brewing industry. You efforts make an impact!
In an average month, a cattle producer hauls off about 150,000 pounds of wet, spent barley from @BigGroveBrewery's Iowa City brewhouse. If not for the farmer, the grain would have gone to the landfill. The same instinct shows up in other places: recycling input has doubled, solid waste is down by half, and the kitchens in Iowa City and Des Moines traded their trash dumpsters for compost dumpsters that now take about 8,000 pounds per month. Joe Bolick, director of @IowaEnviro, which has awarded the brewery two platinum certifications through its Iowa Green Brewery Certification program, said, "Big Grove has really set the standard of what it means to be a sustainable craft brewery here in Iowa." thebusinessdownload.com/iowa…
