Future generations will wonder why this took so long to achieve.
The United Nations General Assembly voted for a resolution spearheaded by several African countries to adopt a map that makes their continent bigger while shrinking North America and Europe - aiming at "a more accurate representation" of world geography rte.ie/news/world/2026/0904/…

Apocalyptic scenes on the Nepal-China border. Among the hundreds missing are 2 Irish. Glacial lake outburst is a frighteningly powerful force, and climate change is making it an even greater risk.
GRAPHIC WARNING: This video contains sensitive footage that may disturb some viewers. A massive flash flood in the Himalayan border areas of Nepal and ‌China's Tibet washed away villages while damaging roads, bridges and power projects in a region bordering Tibet, authorities said.

There are a few solid accounts of the tragedy on Broad Peak this year. This from the US commentator Alan Arnette, is one the best IMO. The approach, tone and messaging is on point. It is well worth your time. youtu.be/pi_YtoX7q5g?is=d8y8…

This weeks disaster on Broad Peak brings home once again the dangers of high altitude mountaineering and the immense power of nature. Broad Peak is one of the 14 'eight-thousanders', and is located in the Karakoram range on the border of Pakistan & China. /1

Eddie reached the summit on 8th July 1998, unaided and without bottled oxygen. He was part of a six-man 'Irish K2 Expedition' team that season. As far as we can tell, the last Irish person to attempt Broad Peak was Kevin Hynes in 2016. Kevin later died on Everest in 2019. /End
