Join DPIRD Research Scientist Jeremy Curry @JC6450 at #GRDCUpdates on Feb 27 to hear about the best strategies to optimise nutrition for canola in the high rainfall zone, including which nutrition investments made sense and which made no cents 💰! @GrainIndustryWA @GRDCWest
Join us next Wednesday 7th September to have a look at the final year of @theGRDC Optimising HRZ Cropping trials at Gibson! Starts 10.45am at @DPIRDbroadacre canola site goo.gl/maps/sFfPiuyzM4NB7CUc… (follow signs off Campbell Rd, Gibson). Followed by @FAR_Australia cereals in arvo.
Fantastic site for @theGRDC @DPIRDWA high rainfall cropping site at Gibson, with thanks to the Whiting family. After no P response in 2021, a very visual response just two paddocks over in 2022. Check it out at our HRZ field day on 7 Sept. 2021 report at farmtrials.com.au/trial/3251…
We are very fortunate to be joined by Nutrien's Brad Westphal (@agro_brad), CSIRO's Andrew Fletcher (@AndrewF00370433) and DPIRD's Andrea Hills (@AndreaHills9) to chat all things canola agronomy including nutrition, disease and canopy management.
10.45am start Wednesday 7 Sept.
Plenty of variation in development stage at the @DPIRDbroadacre wheat agronomy site at Grass Patch, with thanks to @farms_sanderson. Spring wheats sown 11 April range from late stem elongation to already filling grain! Last year top yields came from TOS2 (v. late April).

I'll be presenting our latest pre-harvest sprouting results and strategies for management at the @theGRDC Grains Research Updates today at 11.25am (AWST).

This Thursday starting at 11am. Looking forward to chatting canola management with Bill Moore (Elders) and Jens Berger (CSIRO) at DPIRD's HRZ canola site (thanks to hosts, the Whiting family). Followed by @far_australia cereals in arvo. All part of @theGRDC HRZ cropping project.
Don't forget to register for our Esperance Crop Technology Centre field day next Thursday (9th Sept), featuring the @theGRDC's High Rainfall Zone Farming Systems project. We have a great line up of speakers joining us. Click here for more faraustralia.com.au/wp-conte…

Looking forward to Thursday’s field walk incl. @DPIRDbroadacre wheat agronomy trials with over 30 varieties, four times of sowing, and a look at seeding depths and plant densities. Plus plenty else on with @marksey77325134, @SEPWA_ag and F&G trials.
All four times of sowing (14 April to 9 June) up and away at Grass Patch. DPIRD funded research looking at optimising wheat variety choice (in particular diff. maturity types) across the sowing window. Cracking site thanks to hosts @farms_sanderson.

We have seen winter wheats be a useful option in the higher rainfall areas closer to the coast but how will they go in the mallee? Illabo pictured, sown 14 April.

Are you maximising your barley yield with enough plants?
An analysis of 57 trials (2012-2018), suggests that establishing 150 to 200 plants per square m is the sweet spot for grain yield in Western Australia.
Establishing less than 100 plants/m2 compromises yield potential.
Looking forward to this Wednesday's field walk at EDRS which now also features an update on RWA surveillance and management from Svet Micic. Please bring clean wet weather clothing. Followed by a sundowner.
