I adore a good pop culture reference in my sports writing, and @BenRitholtzNBA delivers the goods today with - of course - the Hangover, Part (0 and) 3, and the Knicks.

The Knicks started strong but fizzled in the 4th. More sloppy turnovers, outscored 40-27 in the final frame, and look like they have an early backup center problem. Franz Wagner dropped 21 4th quarter points to help his team avoid the Knicks current fate: an 0-3 start.
Prayers up to Jalen Suggs who suffered a knee injury late in the 4th.
It doesn’t get easier, champs! The East is hungry and early on, you look like food.

Mike Brown on benching
Andre Drummond in 2nd half:
"There were a couple plays…
But I didn't necessarily bench him
Because of that
He played well for us Game 1
And I kept him out there
It was the wrong thing to do
So I'm gonna play him in bursts.
I felt transition D wasn't good
I wanted to go with a change
Wiseman played well in practice
And in his 1st stint
So I decided to go w him 2d stint
Andre will play next game
But…as I said before:
Our starting 5 is what it is
But everybody else after that
Til we find something consistent
I'm gonna try to get guys an opportunity"

It appears Mike Brown has benched Andre Drummond in favor of James Wiseman (who is struggling, 0-for-5). Here is what Brown said pregame about playing Wiseman:
“First thing I wanna make clear is we have our starting five. Other than that, anybody can play. When you’re a backup in this league, that doesn’t mean you’re always gonna be the seventh man or you’re always gonna be the eighth man. No, no, no, no, no, no. It’s competitive. And it’s less so with the starting group if your starting group is established, which ours is, but everybody else after that starting five, I can throw in front of the next guy in a heartbeat.”
Drummond really struggled in Friday's loss in Boston.

Last 3 minutes scream a team not quite locked in.
Incredibly sloppy on both ends. Should be up 15 easily.
The 3 shots that Knick backup centers have missed tonight have a higher degree of difficulty than any shot Mitchell Robinson ever took in New York.
Maybe let’s keep things simple.

What a luxury as a deep bench option.
A true point guard who gets his guy a much needed bucket.

Are they kidding me.
That is legitimately the worst flagrant call I’ve ever seen in my life.

Jose Alvarado (ankle) out tonight vs ORL, Mike Brown says. Brown was asked about playing James Wiseman vs Celtics. He says Knicks have an established starting 5 but beyond that, everything is up for competition re: reserve minutes/roles

"They won a championship with this exact roster essentially... the proof of concept is there... What is so fascinating about them and what was on grand display last night and will continue to be on display... they are also a flawed basketball team"
@BenRitholtzNBA finds it fascinating to analyze a Knicks team that won a championshiop but still have moment where they look like an imperfect roster.
