Wake up. Every profession deemed white-collar, the middle class dream, is about to be decimated by AI, at a much faster pace than anticipated, with monstrous social consequences.

For a lot of people. The dream is to own a home. Buy things and put them in the home. And not go anywhere. Surround yourself with stuff. People. Kids. Pets. Like a castle
As an extrovert, some of these blow my mind. 26% of Americans didn’t go out for breakfast a SINGLE time in 365 days? 54% didn’t go to a sports game and 51% didn’t go to a bar/tavern even once? Even with the increase, 68% of adults didn’t attend a single concert? Are there people out there that just don’t do anything??

A sports team is supposed to be tied to a city forever. The city and the team are one. Even if the team loses money or it gets relegated to lower divisions. Sports is not supposed to be a normal business where you just move to a new city and create a new fandom. This is how it has worked since forever. This is why I'm glad to see gambling completely take over pro sports in America. It's built on a non-lindy foundation. It needs to be corrected.
It's so weird that amidst the 21st century tech boom, the Bay Area has actually *lost* pro sports teams since apparently none of these tech geniuses is normal enough to want to be a local hero and own a baseball team.

Historians will look back at the last 150 years see the 2 day weekend, the 8-hour workday and the post-Covid shift to remote and hybrid work as part of the same long story. Modern workers carving out a little more room for lives of their own.
My strongest “vibes not evidence” belief is that remote work is a cancer that’s making (most) people miserable even though it seems better in the short term.

The best reason to read ancient history isn't to memorize dates. It is to realize that human nature hasn't changed at all. The arrogance, jealousy, power struggles, and public anxiety we experience on screens today were all documented thousands of years ago.

Another way the current administration is trapped in the ZERO-SUM FALLACY: The H-1B visa situation. + You are NOT taking a job from a citizen, rather creating jobs by increasing overal economic output. Plus these people (even vegetarians) SPEND locally. + The US has long been benefiting from other countries' brain drain; without it its edge wd collapse. Tesla, Von Braun, von Neumann, Fermi & Einstein did NOT each take the job of a citizen. + It the problem is anti-Indian racism, say it, don't play games.

Knowing things in general tends to make it harder to talk to ‘normal people’ about these kinds of hot topics - Foreign policy - History - Economics - Religion All favorites for folks to discuss, but people typically have strong feelings and low information
knowing economics alienates you from left wing friend groups it’s crazy. i explain how a thing works in america and it’s always “no but it shouldn’t be that way” like ok sure there’s drawbacks i agree. and then you ask what the solution is and they just say “not do that”

I saw of video of Ethan Hawke lamenting how he's not reading half as much as he once did. This is a much deeper and darker pattern. Some of the most avid readers I know, lifelong readers, have basically stopped. They hate it and can't even explain it, the fire's just gone out

There is NO justification ever, under ANY moral code or international law, for one country to purposely destroy entire villages of another country, let alone during a "ceasefire." These are barbaric war crimes, streamed to the world.

To the performative, boring, "detail oriented" class: Now is the time to start learning real skills, competence. Take the pay cut, sabbatical, wtv. But you should actually know a field deeply than just what you've been told to learn, else you are just overpaid and borrowed time

You need to be lore-maxxing. Taking risks. Failing miserably. Relentlessly strategizing and experimenting. Nobody wants to die with a story that isn't worth telling.

🚨🎙️Toni Kroos on Bruno Fernandes: "This match just showed that Bruno Fernandes has always been a problem for Portugal. His stupid decision to stop playing good football as a midfielder whenever Ronaldo is on the pitch has cost Portugal a lot. In today's game you could clearly see Bruno playing passes into the final third and even providing two assists but whenever Ronaldo was on the pitch, some how the passes are played to the Goal keeper (Laughs). At some point, you have to ask yourself why."

The main purpose of religion, I wrote in the Incerto, is not to affirm that there is a God, but to prevent humans from thinking they are Gods. Likewise the purpose of a modern king is not to rule, but to prevent politicians & office climbers from thinking that they are kings.
