⚡ Can you feel the thunder? During Exercise Global Thunder, a U.S. 🇺🇸 Air Force B-52 flew with British 🇬🇧 F-35s and Norwegian 🇳🇴 F-35s — the first time a U.S. B-52 has been escorted by UK F-35s while operating alongside Norwegian fifth-generation fighters. The milestone demonstrated the ability of UK, U.S. and Norwegian forces to integrate strategic airpower with advanced fighter capability across the High North. Operating across vast distances and limited infrastructure, strategic airlift provides the mobility and sustainment needed to get forces where they are required, when they are required. 🛡️ The plan is only the beginning. Execution is the test. During Exercise Steadfast Duel 2026, Joint Force Command Norfolk tested its ability to command Allied forces in a high-intensity Article 5 scenario alongside around 8,000 military and civilian personnel across NATO. The exercise challenged the headquarters to understand the battlespace, make timely decisions and coordinate Allied capabilities under pressure — exactly what collective defence demands. During Exercise Strike Warrior, personnel from 24 Commando Royal Engineers 🇬🇧 built an underground field hospital in Scotland, applying lessons from Ukraine where drones and long-range fires have pushed casualty care below ground. Medical teams then tested how to resuscitate, operate and sustain care in a protected subterranean environment. In Sweden 🇸🇪, around 400 personnel took part in a three-day, unscripted exercise designed to test new tactics for operating — and surviving — in a drone-heavy battlespace. Reconnaissance drones, FPV systems, loitering munitions, electronic warfare, counter-drone capabilities and cloud-based command tools were all put to the test against a thinking adversary. During Exercise Strike Warrior 26, 148 (Meiktila) Commando Forward Observation Battery 🇬🇧 integrated with a German Navy submarine 🇩🇪 and Portuguese warship 🇵🇹 during a complex full mission profile at Cape Wrath. The serial linked submarine ISR, covert small-boat insertion, a tactical beach landing and live Naval Surface Fires — culminating in a successful engagement and extraction.
