Turnitin and other AI detection tools discriminate against non-native English speakers. Once you know this, continuing to use them is a conscious choice to perpetuate inequity.
Writing by non-native English speakers more frequently confused with AI Seven AI detectors frequently misclassified writing by non-native English speakers. Changing the complexity of the vocabulary affected the AI's error rate. Chart showing: Human-written text by native English speakers is flagged as AI-written 5.1% of the time. Human-written text by non-native English speakers is flagged as AI-written 61.3% of the time. Modified human-written text by native English speakers, but modified with a simpler vocabulary is flagged as AI-written 56.9% of the time. Modified human-written text by non-native English speakers, but modified with enhanced vocabulary is flagged as AI-written 11.6% of the time. Note: Average misclassification of seven AI detectors.
