Replying to @KemiBadenoch
@KemiBadenoch has just signed UK accession to CPTPP here in New Zealand.   We are now a member. I’ve worked on this as chief negotiator since early 2021, so it’s a great feeling! A short thread on what it means and what happens next

1/ A thread with some thoughts on the DFID/FCO merger from someone who lived through and worked on the logistics of the Australian equivalent (@dfat merging with AusAid in 2014). This is a complex area with lots of greys. I'll try to be maximally fair to pros and cons.
Australia merged AusAid (our DFID) and DFAT (our FCO+DIT) about 7 years ago. There are merits to the idea, but it's a hugely disruptive exercise and it doesn't magically change all that much about how either aid or foreign policy is delivered.

Calls to UK Domestic Abuse Helplines have more than doubled since the lockdown. Victims should know that if they are in danger, they can dial 999, then press 55 and remain silent. Police will know that the caller is in danger and cannot speak. Spread this wide.

20 years on the day after negotiations were launched in Rio de Janeiro, the #EU and #Mercosur today concluded negotiations for a historic trade agreement - the biggest the EU has ever done. Congrats to @MalmstromEU and @PhilHoganEU @SandraGallina 👏

Interesting thread 👇
/1 Just finished a quick first read of the WTO panel decision today on Article XXI (Russia - Traffic in Transit, DS512). Thanks @rdmcdougall @howserob. Some very preliminary reactions for purposes of discussion. (Long thread).

I have a piece up @monkeycageblog about how the WTO just blew up the REAL Trump-Russia collusion, which was the effort to keep the trade body from reviewing invocations of national security defenses. washingtonpost.com/politics/…

Useful tool provided by @CommonsESIC to allow opinions to be expressed on Statutory instruments under the EU (Withdrawal) Act. Well worth a look! bit.ly/2DPTmYH
