Is 90th Percentile EV more predictive than Max EV of future HR output? Here is the comparison of the two and 90th is much more predictive when looking at HR/Batted Ball Event%. More to come..

The difference is pretty negligible, but for 2021 data, 70th percentile exit velocity had the best correlation with home run percentage. I plan on testing data combined for the last 5 years, but this is interesting.
70th: .434
75th: .432
85th: .429
90th: .427

Tyler O'Neill scorches baseball, but his Max EV of 113.1 is 1.5 MPH lower than Edmundo Sosa 🤔
However, O'Neill's 85th percentile EV ranks 16th in baseball and 90th ranks 28th. The moral of this is that O'Neill hits the ball consistently hard.

Why is MaxEV not always the best to use? I have seen people quote Edmundo Sosa's MaxEV of 114.6 which ranked 93rd percentile among all hitters. But, his next highest BBE was 108.2 MPH. This is why 90th or 85th percentile EVs are more useful.

Ketel Marte ranks extremely well and consistent at each Exit Velo percentile. He’s not a player with a huge outlier of a max EV as some might expect.
