Is a more collaborative relationship with China possible? On clean energy, young progressives and Trump may find common ground argues @BrandonHurlbut. Could the debate shift from whether the U.S. engages with China to how—and on what terms? Listen on @Poli_Climate 🎧politicalclimatepodcast.com/…

A permitting reform deal months in the making could die if we are not carefully watching: the House. On the new @Poli_Climate, @FERChatterjee breaks down why clearing the Senate isn't the finish line: it's where the real fight starts. Listen now: buff.ly/iC1SpzN

If you're reading tweets claiming that #BAAJA helps #datacenters by letting them get speed for "flexing at peak", they are wrong. This simplification is dangerous. It misses the engineering reality of the grid. If a large load only curtails during system-wide peak hours, it can still fail IX studies and won't get powered faster. Grid constraints aren't just about system-wide capacity. Steady-state analysis evaluates N-1 contingencies (like unexpectedly losing a transformer or transmission line). These trigger severe localized thermal limits and congestion, which can easily happen off-peak. BAAJA’s breakthrough isn't peak shaving; it's codifying "non-firm transmission service". The bill mandates standardized evaluation of "cost reduction options" to create a regulatory hook for "non-firm withdrawal limits that avoid network upgrades". The real speed mechanism: get faster interconnection and lower transmission rates not by dodging peak pricing, but by acting as true congestion-accepting resources. They are legally and economically binding themselves to localized, node-specific physics. BAAJA makes what we've already written for Texas as #PCLR, possible for FERC grids.

Heinrich tells @pavanmacharya heading into Dem lunch on permitting “we’re gonna look for a by the book regular order process because people are gonna need time to get briefed and really understand the details.” Sounds near impossible to do that before the election…
NEW: Permitting goes past the 11th hour. Senators are hopeful that Trump’s signal that he would ease his blockade on wind projects will help unlock a deal. ENR ranking member Martin Heinrich told me last night talks are “on the five-yard line, but those five yards are hard”

NEW in ME: Time running short on pre-elex permitting reform deal. Thune wants answers today. POTUS was briefed and gave his blessing for his team and Rs to cut a deal. But Trump admin's attacks on wind, along w/ transmission are among outstanding issues

We could see permitting bill language as soon as this week, says @SenJohnCurtis at #ClimateWeekNYC. “There will be problems,” he said. But if stakeholders approach it with an open mind, instead of going for the kill, permitting reform might actually get done this year.

Are we mining the wrong rocks? Cement: ~2 tons of rock → 1 ton of product
Steel: ~30 tons → 1 ton
Aluminum: ~10 tons → 1 ton @BrimstoneEnergy CEO Cody Finke argues there’s a better way: mine abundant rocks where everything we extract has value. It’s a fascinating rethink of how we make the materials modern civilization depends on. Listen on Political Climate 🎧 politicalclimatepodcast.com/…
