“The world has changed completely and we have to fight for our place. Build a world based on peace, solidarity and mutual prosperity.”
Stirring words from previous GS, Mick Lynch, as he receives a vote of thanks from our new one, Eddie Dempsey.
A great man, proud to know him.
Apologies for quoting myself but just to clarify: my ex-husband was never a named driver, he can’t drive, has never even tried. So can anyone tell me what is it about married women that makes them less likely to be in an accident than a divorced one? I’m not letting this go 😅
Can someone at @HastingsDirect (or maybe someone along the lines of @MartinSLewis) give me any reason why my car insurance quote should go UP when I change my status from married to divorced? Am I more likely to run my ex over now we’re divorced than when we were just separated?

Just FYI: I’m sort of on here for habit’s sake, I have a little scroll every so often, but honestly, it’s got so toxic I’m mostly on Threads instead, usually enjoying soothing diatribes about Tolkien and reading challenges.

Re-privatised Overground. Cleaners outsourced.
All while a Labour government is bringing rail back into public hands.
Make it make sense. 🤷♂️
Thoughts?

I'm a single day into Project Rewrite, and I'm already writing myself utterly unhinged notes. This is going to be fun!
Inspired by my dear friend @RMLeMesurier, I am about to enter my rewrite era. I’ve developed so much as a writer since I hastily self-published my beloved book, The Bean Jar, I want to reflect on it, make it better. The characters are shouting at me and I need to do them justice.
I think I’ve read @LucyGoBag’s books too many times because I’m really excited that the solar-powered/wind-up radio/torch/powerbank I’ve had in my Amazon basket has gone in the Black Friday sale.

STOP SWITCHING WHICH PROJECT YOU'RE WRITING.
(That was shouted at myself, though anybody who needs the encouragement of an angry writerly howl, please do take it.)
I missed my staff party because I was in hospital with my pneumonia-ridden mother (who is now on the mend) and I really want an excuse to wear the delightfully Christmassy outfit I'd planned but I don't think I have any opportunities. Might just put it on to go to Sainsburys.

This. Even at the simplest level, insourcing would give those staff members (who wear the same TOC uniform in some cases despite the enforced division of directly employed staff vs agency staff) access to internal job sites, removing one barrier to progression right off the bat.

Train drivers and staff are heroes.
The driver had to call signal control to report that he was coming off the fast track and pulling up at Huntingdon. They then had to clear the track and direct him to a safe platform.
Next time they ask for fair pay, remember this.

Actually, Frankenstein was the doctor. The monster was whoever credited Mary Shelley under her husband’s name in the original movie.
