I’m giving a talk about pain management for acute pain episodes in #SickleCell disease in a few days. I wanted to get some feedback from @EM_UCD about my approach to opiate dosing in the ED. This is the title of my email. One of the perks of working with ED pharmacists 🙌🏾.

👇 this is why we use holistic review @UCDavisEM
Sometimes when doing holistic review you uncover an absolute gem of a candidate on paper that you just know a ton of places are going to overlook bc they don’t have a cookie cutter application and it completely validates why you should read every app.

Simulated disaster exercises are just one way we keep our department prepared to best serve our community in times of need. Our faculty, residents, nurses, technicians and surgical colleagues displayed amazing teamwork when put through the test!
More than 100 staff members and emergency responders from the community took part in a simulated plane crash exercise. This exercise tested @UCDavisEM's emergency management plans, trained staff, and helped improve the medical center's ability to deal with disasters.

“There are very few things that we do in medicine that would account for an 80% lower risk of dying. And in this study when people got housed, their risk of dying in the next 6 months went right down.” @MKushel tells @KQEDnews omny.fm/shows/kqed-segmented…

Hate, cowardice of white supremacy is despicable, destructive. Lies, false narratives and conspiracy theories for what? Fear of of multicultural society? Of immigration? Diversity, immigration have made the US great! Vote to preserve democracy. Our freedom rides on it! @UCDavisEM
Today, four white men wearing black clothing and masks displayed a banner over the Highway 113 bicycle overpass that contained racist anti-Semitic statements. We are sickened. White supremacy, hate and intimidation have no place here. Full message: ucdavis.edu/news/chancellors…

Love being part of a department that not only talks about being committed to serving the community and DEI initiatives, but also walks the walk with unique and impactful programs like these. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Our ED has implemented a new program to help our providers prescribe PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) to patients that are at high risk of acquiring HIV. 🧵 below on details of how we are removing barriers to care for these patients who are often otherwise marginalized:

Our residents hosted high school students from around the U.S. for a tour of our amazing hospital and a hands-on experience of what it’s like to be a doctor! This is part of a partnership with the @ucdavis Department of Career and Professional Education.

My two cents: Just say why you like it. Plain English. No need for a complex story or fancy prose.

#primarycare providers: You have no idea how many times I bring up things I read in PCP notes during my conversations with patients in the ED. Every time I mention an upcoming vacation or child’s graduation, I get a smile and a story. Never fails.
Today @UCDavisEM celebrated a complete 3 yr cycle of our #PEM curriculum!! Thanks @emilyandrada68 for your leadership!! @kat04747 @NickSawyerMD @DrSarahEM @nkuppermann @JPatelEM
