People are already paying for subscriptions to Netflix, YouTube, Sky and countless other streaming services. If the BBC is struggling to stay afloat, perhaps it’s time to scrap the archaic TV licence fee and move to a subscription-based model. Let people decide for themselves whether the BBC is worth paying for, rather than forcing everyone to fund a service they have little interest in watching. With the cost of living already sky-high, why should ordinary people be forced to shoulder yet another financial burden to prop up an institution they neither use nor wish to support? The idea of effectively making people pay more for their existing streaming and entertainment habits to fund the BBC is completely out of touch with the financial pressures households are facing. People are already struggling to afford even the simplest pleasures in life. A trip to the cinema, a meal out or a night socialising with friends can feel like a luxury these days. For many, a Netflix subscription or a bit of YouTube at home is one of the few affordable ways to unwind and escape the daily grind. Stop reaching further into people's pockets and taking away what little respite they have left. If the BBC wants to remain relevant and financially sustainable, it should have to persuade people that its content is worth paying for, just like every other subscription service. If people value it, they’ll subscribe. If they don’t, that should be their choice. The last thing people need during a cost-of-living crisis is another unpopular, forced charge. I suspect it could provoke resentment on a scale reminiscent of the poll tax. Give people choice, respect their finances and let the BBC earn its subscribers rather than forcing the public to fund it.

BREAKING: Trump's smear campaign against Renee Good COLLAPSES as new polling reveals that a majority of Americans believe that her shooting at the hands of an ICE officer was unjustified. Trump's lies just aren't sticking... According to a Quinnipiac University poll, 53% say that the ICE agent was not justified. 35% said that it was justified and 12% said that they did not know. With how aggressively Trump and Kristi Noem have been trying to paint the innocent mother as a "domestic terrorist," these numbers prove that Americans are increasingly immune to their Republican lies. 92% of Democrats said that the shooting was unjustified while 77% of Republicans believed that it was justified. Amongst Independents (the demographic that matters most for the upcoming midterm elections), 59% said that it was not justified and only 28% said that it was. The fact that 35% of Americans watched the same video that we all did — which clearly shows Good trying to peacefully escape a swarm of masked men only for one of them to ruthlessly murder her — is deeply disturbing but unfortunately all too predictable. Roughly a third of this country will believe anything that Trump says. Their minds have been warped by the MAGA cult. Thankfully, we don't have to convince these people to rejoin the rest of us in reality. We just have to outvote them in large enough numbers to put Democrats back into power. If we retake the House we'll have subpoena power to investigate this corrupt, fascist administration and stop Trump's legislative agenda in its tracks. Please ❤️ and share if you think that the shooting was completely unjustified!

He called her a “fucking bitch” after shooting her in the face. He had just been insulted by her wife attacking his ego. His hand was on the gun. This was murder with malicious intent. A hate crime.

It's hard to fathom the level of incompetence of Trump and his regime, and how foolish he makes us look on the world stage. One of his premises for his little coup of Venezuela was to take their oil. No one dares to explain to him the basic economics that 1) when prices get too low, the oil companies do not make money; and 2) they don't want to operate there. Allegedly he was speaking to the oil companies all along. Did he ask them? He even gave them a heads up for his raid, while not informing members of Congress! Exxon's CEO says of Venezuela, "it's uninvestable." ConocoPhillips told Trump they had already lost $12 billion from having their operations nationalized. Trump's response was write it off, and the CEO said we did (they are required to). Writing off business losses is something Trump should know a lot about! What an international embarrassment. This man is a fool, and surrounded by sycophants and incompetents.

The most dangerous thing a woman can do is make a misogynistic man feel foolish. Emasculated. Not feared. Nothing will create more bloodthirsty misogyny than a woman making a narcissist feel out of control. Because to be below a woman, to them, is to be below everyone.

She didn’t threaten his life. She threatened his authority and masculinity, and that’s what gets women killed.

The “if she had complied, she’d still be alive” line that we’re hearing from ICE defenders is the mantra of apologists for security forces in dictatorships through the ages.

He didn't shoot her in the head at point blank range because he felt like he was in danger. He shot her in the head at point blank range because he was furious that she wasn't afraid of him. He shot her in the head at point blank range because he felt emasculated.

Apparently, “trafficking” now just means convincing someone to do something. People should start using this in their day-to-day lives. “My boss trafficked me into staying late on Friday again.” “My girlfriend trafficked me to that restaurant I didn’t want to go to.”

So JD can't complain about predictable bad consequences of own actions, ESPECIALLY if calculation as cynical as you suggest!
Whereas I think she's a puerile troll and self-promoter who'll write anything for cash. Sad to see clever man like JD associate
you're clearly obsessed with the two papers and see everything through that lens. To repeat: I didn't even mention the Mail!
same thing insufficient to prove hypocrisy! Just an imposition of impossible standard to avoid having to answer initial charge.
Replying to @JamesDelingpole
Also, in general, failure to extend a criticism of someone to everyone else in the whole word also guilty of

double standard? I didn't even criticise the Mail to begin with!!!

it has nothing to do with the validity or not of my criticism of Delingpole. Which is why you ask.
