Many parents face battles & delays. The Children’s Commissioner recommended that mainstream schools be given the resources to support children with SEND, and if alternative provision is required then this should be available from day one

Children’s Commissioner calls for radical “rehaul” of the SEND system. No, children don’t need more system changes, they need the current system to be properly implemented and complied with. Why not look at ways to do THAT?

What about children in specialist schools? I think it is time that children are given bespoke packages and that L/T alternative provision is funded alongside specialist schools+Both are written in EHCPs. My lo has wasted a years education due to LA/school funding decisions.

Could you argue for a max amount of hrs please @CarersUK @contactfamilies ? Min hours expected to get CA but at 35 hours that’s a full time job in itself. Many working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This should not be allowed. Everyone needs rest periods even unpaid carers
Unexpectedly. I had to take my child to her farm provision. Rather than a 100 mile , 4 hr, round trip, I've stopped off at a historic landscaped garden ❤️ whilst leaving the other cared for person at home. Hope she is OK.

Non-compliance with the law by many LAs lies at the heart of the SEND crisis. If this is not addressed, nothing is likely to improve.
What’s the biggest challenge you have faced in navigating the SEND system? Tell us in the comments or R/T.

For only the 3rd time in months I have just got my lo out to meet her teacher. They've gone for a walk. She has only been in school for a maximum of one month since last year due to systems failure... me I'm having a coffee. #Carer

Behaviour is communication
One has to question whether the current education system is fit for purpose!

This is interesting and sad- how someone can be awarded and punished at the same time.
