⚡ David Bowie and Iggy Pop on the platform at Copenhagen Central Station in 1976, Bowie in sunglasses and a flat cap and Iggy in a peaked cap and leather jacket. Captured by Danish photographer Jan Persson.
That spring Bowie was crossing Europe on the Isolar tour behind Station to Station, the era of the Thin White Duke, and he avoided flying in those years, so much of the journey happened by rail. Iggy came along as his companion for the whole tour. In April the pair even took a side trip by train from Zurich through Poland to Moscow, walking around Red Square before heading on to Helsinki, where the tour picked up again on April 24. Bowie played two nights at the Falkoner Center in Copenhagen on April 29 and 30 before six nights at Wembley's Empire Pool in London.
Later that year the two friends settled in West Berlin, and Bowie produced Iggy's debut solo album The Idiot, released in March 1977, with Lust for Life following that August.
Bowie co-wrote China Girl with Iggy for The Idiot, six years before his own hit version. Which of these two would you rather have shared a train compartment with?
