As the first Chair of @OfficialSYP from Dundee I hope to bring a different perspective of what it’s like to grow up in Scotland. I enjoyed speaking to the Courier about how I want to ensure young people from places like Dundee are heard, recognised and represented.

I’m delighted to have been elected as the next chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament. I’m looking forward to working with @ella_msyp and the rest of the board. Our work starts now.

Fire and rehire is wrong. Employers should not be able to unilaterally change someone’s working conditions. The public sector should lead by example and show how we expect businesses to treat their staff. Glasgow City Council must reverse this decision.
Scotland's largest authority, Glasgow City Council, has announced plans to fire and rehire more than 20,000 staff after union talks break down. Scotland correspondent @ConnorGillies explains the story from the city, and analyses the move trib.al/bpKFIqQ 📺 Sky 501

Young people deserve a voice in politics. The UK Youth Parliament gives young people a safe space to build skills, gain confidence and make friends while campaigning to improve their communities. Its funding is vital and should not be ‘axed’. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c689…

There are real term spending cuts planned to education as well. This will have a significant impact on children and young people.
This is a chart that should sound klaxons in council chambers across Scotland. The SNP are planning big cuts to local services if they get re-elected in May. This analysis is set out in the Fiscal Forecast published alongside the budget today.

Weak on crime. Weak on the causes of Crime. Community service is an effective way at reducing reoffending rates and providing justice for the victims of crime. The current backlog is unacceptable.

Wishing everyone a Happy Christmas! As most of us spend the day celebrating, I’m thinking of those in our armed forces and emergency services who are working.

Many of the measures in the Employment Rights Bill will disproportionately benefit young people: Banning exploitative zero hour contracts. Sick pay from day one. Tackling fire and rehire. Stronger family leave. This is a boost to workers security, dignity and fairness.

What a fantastic result last night 👏🏻👏🏻 This is the first time children and young people have seen @ScotlandNT qualify for the World Cup - we will all be cheering them on next year!

Keir Starmer recently announced his aim that 2/3’s of young people will go onto University, College or an Apprenticeship. Yet in Scotland students studying a HNC at College get less funding than those in first year at University despite it being the same level. Time for change.

I am concerned about the proposed funding cuts at Dundee & Angus College. For too long there has been insufficient funding for higher education in Scotland - and now staff and students are paying the price. The Scottish Government must act.

Keir Mather becomes the youngest Government Minister in almost 200 years. Young people bring fresh ideas, new energy and different experiences to these roles. That’s vital for good governance. Hopefully we won’t have to wait as long for the next young Minister to be appointed.
Keir Mather MP (@Mather_Keir) has been appointed as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for Transport.

Today, @LeiaMSYP and I traveled through for the @ScotParl Festival of Politics. Leading experts discussed a range of topical issues with insight from the public. I found the session on environmental justice particularly interesting. You can visit yourself before Friday.

Edinburgh, Glasgow and now Aberdeen have announced that they will be introducing a ‘tourist tax’. This levy, which is a power given to local authorities last year by the Scottish Parliament, will charge visitors a fee on their nightly accommodation. Should Dundee do the same?

Congratulations to all of those young people receiving their @SQANews results today! No matter what your result are, remember there is support available and #nowrongpath.
