Our first Europa League night in modern history. Under the lights. At home. A moment this club, this city and this fanbase has earned.
From the minute the gates open, this place needs to feel different.
Get in early. Fill the concourses. Fill the stands. Start singing before there’s even a player on the pitch. Make the whole stadium loud, hostile, proud and absolutely relentless.
Our small but mighty team has worked unbelievably hard behind the scenes to pull something special together for tonight. Long hours, late nights, a lot of graft and a lot of people giving up their own time because nights like this are exactly why we do it.
We won’t spoil it, but when the moment comes, you’ll know.
Roker End Upper: you’ll have something to hold up as part of the display. Please keep it held properly for the full effect.
And once it’s up, if those in the Upper could also turn on their phone torches and shine them out, it will help complete the illusion and add another layer to what we’re trying to create.
Tonight isn’t one to watch quietly.
Sing everything.
Make noise before the whistle.
Make noise during the game.
Make the place shake.
Europe is back on Wearside.
Let’s make sure it remembers us.

Was Habib Diarra’s chip really a bad decision, or are we simply judging players by the result?
Sunderland’s latest moment of magic offers a lesson in footballing risk. 🍟

“This game just looks like Red Dead Redemption 2 but GTA” I mean yeah bro that sounds pretty fucking sick to me
#SAFC fans need to be careful what they wish for with Isidor. We've already sold Mayenda this summer and haven't replaced him. Selling Isidor as well wouldn't be wise, and there's no way we'd bring in players of better quality for both him and Mayenda for £40m. Keep him.

🚨🚨💣 JUST IN: Jude Bellingham will NOT START tonight for England!
This is because they play tomorrow. @CraigHope

What a sell that is for Sunderland, proper recruitment!
Rennes in advanced talks with Sunderland over signing of forward Eliezer Mayenda. Fee understood to be in region of £22m. Mayenda started 8 Premier League games last season, scoring twice. His contract at Sunderland runs until 2030. #SAFC #StadeRennais w/@SkySports_Keith
Second this, need to stop calling him until we know for certain if he’s staying or going. He’s still our player until someone tells us he’s not

Something doesn't sit right about all this Xhaka stuff given what he's said recently. Either way, this can only go two ways - either Chelsea pay us a stupid amount of money or we draw a line under it and move on from it quickly.

Kristjaan Speakman deserves enormous credit for his work at Sunderland.
He arrived on the 4th December 2020, with Sunderland 7th in League 1 and leaves us 11th in the Premier League.
It wasn't always perfect, but some of the signings were brilliant.
So many highlights... but Ross Stewart and Trai Hume signed for under £350,000 each, Ballard for £2m, Bellingham for £1.5m, Mayenda for £700,000, persuading Enzo Le Fee to sign on loan last season and working alongside Florent Ghisolfi last summer.
Forever grateful for helping us get our club back! ❤️

Crystal Palace should be both an inspiration and a warning to #SAFC. Built a brilliant team, won something, but losing star players and top coach then becomes inevitable. Succession planning is absolutely essential and something Sunderland have to take incredibly seriously.

Tonight was one game too many for us. Players looked knackered with and without the ball. Didn’t do the basics well enough and conceded soft goals. In a period where we were on top, not sure what was going through Enzo’s head. Defeats like that are always going to happen…

Anyway, we might have been well beaten today but getting through that festive spell, which was our hardest run of fixtures of the season, without the AFCON lads with only one defeat was a MASSIVE effort.
Still only lost 5 games and we'll be in great shape after the cup.
Jack Asbery retweeted
Right, let’s forget about that one and move on.
Great time for a bit of a season reset. Come back against Palace well rested and with most of the AFCON players back.
Absolute fuck tonne to be positive about 🔴⚪️💪🏻 #SAFC

We were great in the second half right up until the penalty, which killed us. Really hard to take, we all hate getting beat… Brentford however just went fifth in the table and have the best home record in the league; clear to see why.
We’re very stretched. Done well to get this far without losing when you consider how many players we’ve had missing.
Nee point losing our heads over this, just got to move on quickly. And I’m sure we will.

What a day yesterday was mind. Not many would have backed us to take West Ham to task like we did yesterday. So pleased our three goal scorers were all from our last Championship season, just shows you if you have the right attitude you can make that next step.
